jeff ireland: ryan tannehills expectations tempered...

irelands not gonna be judged for how garrard or matt moore do...he's gonna sink or swim on tannehill...i don't understand the creme rises to the top stuff though if all the reps you ever get are with the 2nd and 3rd team and few and far between...but again we'll see what looks he gets in training camp...which can't get here fast enough

it kinda reminds me of when cam wake lit up the depth players in the preseason his first year and yet stil rarely saw the field in the regular season even though he was the best pass rusher on the roster from the get go...wake deserved to play more had the most talent and upside yet they came up with some garbage excuse about how he wasn't stout enough against the run and rarely played him...qb obviously is more than physical tools and upside i know that but there's nothing wrong with giving a real talent some looks to see what he's got instead of just putting him in pen #3 on the depth chart from the get go...

That's another negative against our coaching staff, not our GM. They kept him on the bench for Joey Porter because Porter was a loud mouth with a big contract

tannehills not gonna look like gabbert...cause tannehills not scared to death of contact...i wouldn't worry about that...that's one red flag we aren't gonna have...if he plays too early i think what you would see is him struggle to dx coverage and hold onto the ball too long also failure to recognize or account for uncovered blitzers and set up his protections as well as throw some balls into coverage because of a lack of recognition and probably some general not being on the same page as his skill position players...

but film study is only gonna take you so far with any of that...you're either gonna show you got it or eventually you're gonna show you don't...you can try to delay it as long as you want but there comes a time where you either **** or get off the pot...

I agree with alot of your accessment of the kind of mistakes you would see out of a too raw RT, and I agree that at SOME point you have to put him out there, sink or swim. However I have to disagree that he is better off doing that from day one. I hate to keep using this comparison, but do you really think Rodgers would have had the same kind of success his rookie year as he did after sitting for a couple years?? The question is, would Rodgers have learned quicker being thrown to the wolves. My answer is maybe maybe not, but there is a chance that he could have been ruined to the point that he lost all of his confidence and never matured into the superstar we see today.

Now people can say that would have never happened with Rodgers, but I say a lot of super talented QBs have lost their confidence and never panned out after having been thrown to the wolves. Was starting too early the reason?? No one has a time machine so I guess we will never know, but the game of football is not played between the lines, it is played between the ears, and confidence is one of the most important aspects IMO. I feel that a QB needs to be brought along in such a way that he has as much chance as possible to be as successful as often as possible to keep his confidence at a high level.

But like you said earlier, we will all be much happier when TC starts, and we get to see some of this play itself out. One thing is for sure, no matter if he is 3rd string 4th string or 2nd string, if he shows he is the best QB he WILL start. Ireland needs him starting more than any of the rest of us IF he is ready.

Another article to stroke the fire of impatient belly aching.

This team is in flux still. To put the kid in now would be risking too much long term damage and bad habit forming. Guys like Aaron Rodger inherited a good team, which Tanny is not. Wait until there's more stability around him and he's been around the NFL game for a year. It won't hurt him ....

tannehills not gonna look like gabbert...cause tannehills not scared to death of contact..

That will change real fast if we hand out sacks like we did last year.

They are a team in flux, exactly.

They have a new coach, a new Offensive coordinater, a new Defenseive coordinater, a COMPLETELY new & different Offense and Defense as well.

I would wait until at least the O-line and entire receiving core are settled in and know what they are supposed to be doing before I throw the rookie QB to the wolves.

I think Ross needs to keep his trap FIRMLY shut. The very last thing they need is for him to give the media any more of his famous quotes. Expectations need to be kept quiet and private until they are sure that the season will end above .500.

Hoos, I typically agree with what you are saying, but I don't see this article saying RT is not going to get a fair shake. Now, absent the article, if you asked me what chances I thought RT had of starting game 1, I would say absolutely zero. Just gut feel from early results and the tone of comments from the coaching staff. I'm guessing you combined your gut feel and read a bit too much into it but I won't put words in your mouth.

I personally felt RT was a reach at 8 and nowhere near NFL ready. We all would have rather had a guy that was closer to go from the start, but that went out the door when Barkely stayed in school. However, I didn't disagree much with the pick. Had to be done as it's just been far to long to have no hope of even decent QB play. No idea if RT will pan out, but at least we all have a glimmer of hope for the first time in 13-14 years.

I won't worry about the first 7-9 games, but I feel strongly RT should start seeing the field in the last 5-6 games unless we happen to be in a playoff position (unlikely). I'm with you that there is NO substitute for real game experience, and I don't want RT's first snaps of actual NFL play to come in September of 2013.

Man you have got to quit posting so much. Every time I see that chick in your avatar I have to go take another cold shower. Dang that girl drives me crazy. If you happen to know her personally, would you do me a favor and see if she might be interested in a broke, overweight, 45 year old living in a single wide moble home?? I would be very interested in making her my trailer park queen.

I have NEVER made fun of you. I just like cutting up and having fun with those whom I respect. I probably came off wrong thinking you knew I was just having fun. I am truely sorry if I EVER said anything that in any way offended you. I respect your opinions and you as a fellow finfan, I never "hunted you down" and messed with you. Often I don't even know who I am responding to. I appreciate your and post consider you one of the good guys. I truely hope you don't think I ever made fun of you.

Tannehill needs to earn the job..earn it on the field. BTW, I do not think he is close to being ready.

Man if that's true then 1) Hoops you're goddamn cold and 2) KTown if you're ever at a Dolphins game your next beer is on me holy hell

Thanks Crazy, I might just take you up on that but it will be after the middle of the season. I don't go to any more games early in the season, the heat kills me. I like AC too much. And guys don't take Hoops too serious, he was just picking back at me like I do him. In all honesty I really do own a single wide but that is just a place to hang my hat, I spend a lot of my time in casino hotels. I actually lead a pretty comfortable life, and live well within my means. I was just trying to be funny with the comment about the chick in the picture, don't give Hoops too much grieve, he was just joking around like I do.
