jeff ireland: ryan tannehills expectations tempered...

Honestly I really feel that letting a guy get a year under his belt is the best way to grow a QB. There are a lot more bad things that can happen if they play from the get go than good. RT is also not the best candidate for the throw them to the fire approach.
I agree. So much to figure out with this offense. Do we have anything at wide receiver, how will the young tight ends fair, will the offensive line improve. Let the vets work with this group, bring in more talent next year, and it can only help Ryan Tannehill. The Green Bay model worked well for Aaron Rodgers. I just think fans need to be patient and understand that this is a work in progress. I know that's hard to do since we haven't been to the playoffs since 2008, but better to build it the right way.

We're not Green Bay, we don't have Aaron Rodgers and there's no Brett Favre.

We used the 8th pick in the NFL draft on Tannehill. He's the franchise, he needs to play. We all know he's a rookie. We need to see how he reacts under pressure. Your either mentally tough or your not, it's not learned holding a clip board.

He'll make rookie mistakes. The team needs to see the potential.

The problem is that no one is gonna come to the game to see Garrard or Moore, the future is now, if tannehill is better in camp then he should start. Sure he's going to have deficiencies but he will have them also in his second year. We need more excuses about the future of this team, Garrard or Moore should be released so this kid can get reps this year.

Sounds like a perfectly normal GM response.......I see nothing wrong in what he said. Nor, any reason to doubt Tannehill.

Much ado about nothing.

Good one!!

Has there ever been a more brilliant pick by a GM than Tannehill at #8?

Fifth year on the job, hasn't done a good job of managing the salary cap, Dolphins ranked #25 for talented players 25 and under by ESPN this week (true or not?), change of coaching staff and drafts a developmental QB with the #8 pick in the draft. If Miami has another losing season chances are Ross will keep Ireland around for season 6 b/c Ireland will be in Ross' ear saying Tannehill is the guy who will turn the team around. Of course, if Miami has a losing season next year as well Ireland can tell Ross it was Tannehill's first year playing and that was to be expected. Truly, a brilliant pick by a GM who imo should have been shown the door along with Sparono.

Ireland is out for himself and his own job security. He knows that he'll be judged by how Tannehill plays, and the longer Tannehill sits on the bench, the longer Ireland gets a freakin free pass. Horrible.

i want Tannehill to start right away, its not like our team is gonna do anything with Moore and Garrard, especially with these weapons, we're looking at a 4th straight losing season anyway, might as well throw Tanny in there from jump, i think his inexperience is somewhat negated by his knowledge of the offense and mobility/athleticism to escape the pocket if he doesnt feel comfortable on any given play. inexperience doesnt mean you cant play right away, sanchez started even less games at SC and he started right away, he didnt play well but he didnt know the offense going in like tannehill does. flacco only started for a couple of seasons at Delaware, yet he played right away.

Thanks Crazy, I might just take you up on that but it will be after the middle of the season.

I hope you do buddy! I give a lot of people on here **** but if you're willing to give an opinion on the Dolphins, one way or another, then I consider us part of the same Dolphins family. Brothers and sisters fight all the time, but we all have the same goal in mind - Miami being a top tier team in the NFL.

I'm all about community within this team. It's honestly one of the best things about being a Miami dolphin!

yea thats what worries me. he knows he's lucky he hasnt gotten axed after 3 straight losing seasons, whats really sad is he'll still be here in 2013 after our 4th straight losing season.

come on, thats not really fair. I have had my problems with Ireland also but he needs RT to succeed on the field more than any of us. He wants RT out there, but not until he's ready. Who is better equiped Gabbert who got thrown to the wolves with no weapons and he looked pretty bad, or Locker with a few more weapon a great OL and looked great with just a few oportunities. I like Locker now better after having been brought along more slowly. JMO
