well at least they were smart enough not to front him any money...but i bet that contract is playing time incentive laden...no matter though its still a major waste of time

It is an incentive based contract. Think of Garrard as a poor man's Chad Pennington.

Smart (not as smart as CP), limited arm strength, very accurate, and decent mobility.

Worst case scenario is Garrard is still injured and we cut him before opening day.

Best case scenario, we get a healthy Garrard who takes care of the ball and get production out of him similar to what we got out of Pennington in 2008.

And you know this how?

That's just it I don't know, truth is none of us know what's going on behind those walls in Davie..but from looking at it from the outside..it can't be all good when you are doing more subtraction then addition. I get the feeling we are operating the way Loria has operated the Marlins the past 7 years...Garrard could very well turn out to be a solid signing considering the price and the non risk involved.

best case scenario is that bum never sniffs the field or the 53 man roster...

IMO we are rebuilding, on the offensive side of the ball.

On the defensive side of the ball, we retained almost everyone and added a Nickel CB/FS.

I think Philbin has a huge say in the offensive personnel and he and Ireland are making the offensive moves in mutual agreement.

b/t matt moore and david garrard we have no qb...when its a qb competition thats code for we have no damn qb...

whatever...i'm not ruining my day any more thinking about this...

I agree. One of the things Jeff mentioned in the press conference after they hired Philbin is that they'll be in Unison in regards to roster churning. If this was one of the agreements when Philbin was hired, and a month later Ireland is going rogue, signing, trading and releasing whomever he likes without discussions with the head coach doesn't seem logical IMO. As much as the detractors would like to cast Ireland as the villain, I very much believe him and the coaching staff (i.e. Philbin) are in sync with the personnel moves.

Honestly, I think we are looking for our QB of the future in the draft.

This team is rebuilding, on the offensive side of the ball.

Tannenhill or Weeden could come in and by their 2nd year in the league become starters, effective starters at that.

I hate that we are rebuilding, by fact is all the moves this FO has made is ringing the tune loud and clear.

The question is, do you people trust Philbin?

We all know what Ireland has to offer and we all want him out, but fact is that is not happening soon.

Philbin was hand picked by Ross, so that means Ross signed off on this rebuilding period.

The only way we were going to avoid this rebuilding mode is if we got Manning and that did not happen.

It is obvious Philbin did not see Flynn as a Franchise QB and Miami let him go to Seattle to fight for a starters role.

You guys are so wildly off-base about this it's not even funny. . . First of all I don't like Ireland and I want him fired too, but this FA he actually might be changing my mind. He didn't fall for the hype and overpay a backup noodle armed QB ( Flynn) and wasted 8 mil on the bum. Smith was never coming here to begin with, they were trying to use him so Flynn would accept a lower( Back-up) price, it didn't work. The only free-agent QB worth a damn was Peyton but we were never really in the running so everything else was hot garbage, cmon man you guys know Flynn aint going to be **** in this league.

If we bring up career stats for all the QB's, Garrard is the most experienced and most successful of all of them, all of them. He's healthy , at least he claims he is just like Manning does, and ( to me) he is the favorite to start this season. he's a definite upgrade over Moore and is coming to us almost free, a coup for the GM. WTF are you guys complaining about. He was the best QB available, after Manning.

As far as the other moves, Bell was a huge liability in the passing game or did you not see us cough up game after game on defense. Getting rid of Bell is addition by subtraction. He would make the odd stuff on the run but he was horrible in the passing game and graded out as one of the worst in the league last year. We need to ugrade the defense.

I think we are doing it the right way now, building through the draft and we wil lbe very competitive next year and probably make the playoffs. The biggest question is who do we draft at QB this year. THey can't screw that up or all these positive moves will mean nothing.

sorry, Jeff. Players DO NOT want to be here. Their all coming out and saying it.

Who is "they all?"

Ryan clark? He's upset cuz ireland low balled him and he thought he was worth more money and got offended

Matt flynn? He was going to who was gonna pay more, ireland low balled him

Joey porter? We kicked his bum a** to the curb

Cmon man this is all blown out of proportion by the media you guys are all buying into this sh*t? Ireland is not gonna overpay, is that not clear to any of you?

All of the people who made comments got lowballed by us when they thought theyr were worth more and joey porter just sucks

i don't know that flynn is gonna be garbage in this league but i do know that david garrard isn't worth a crap at this stage...even on his best day he's been a pretty average damn qb...

hell i'd run with matt moore before i'd put washed up david garrard in pads...jax knew what we're about to find out...garrard is washed the heck up

I'll take the Ryan Clark statement seriously. The guy really has no reason to make **** up.

But Joey Porter? Guy is a cretin and definitely biased.

In all of this, the media dogpiling, etc., the Clark statement is what troubles me. He's really got no reason to make that nonsense up.

Things look bad, we are missing out on free agents and the draft will not solve all the holes. Ireland is not going to be fired before the start of the season, not happening plain and simple.

What happens though if the team he puts together rips of 10+ wins and makes the players and perhaps even wins a playoff game? How do the fans react? Would you still kick him out the door at the end of the 2012 season?
if we make the playoffs, they will wanna fire him anyway cause we should be in the superbowl!
