Taking a look at what DTs we have now on the team:

Keith Traylor
Vonnie Holliday
Manuel Wright
Kevin Vickerson
Jeff Zgonina
Fred Evans
Rod Wright


With Jeff Zgonina going to be 36 years old when the season starts, do you think this may be the end of his three year run with the Dolphins? I think he has done a solid job over the years, but the fact that we now have some young talent at an aging position might push him out the door. In fact, remember last year Saban actually tried to trade him for a 4th round pick but found no takers. Maybe we can swing a training camp trade for like a 7th round pick. Your thoughts on the future of Jeff?
 
I believe Jeff will be leaving, how old is Traylor? HE doesnt have much time left either
 
I really don't know what will happen with Zgonina. We do have alot of young DT's and we need to keep a couple of them, but we can't forget about Zgonina is still doing good at his age. I guess we will have to see how this plays out.
 
Jeff might be done. I think Wright may go to the practice squad or NFL Europe until he learns to play with intensity all the time...he has to stop taking plays off....but for a guy who could have been a 1st rounder I like him. Not sure about Fred Evans? He played like an MVP for a small school but North Texas State turns out some good players.

Traylor will be 37 when the season starts, but is more valuable to the defense then Zgonina is.
 
Just a question of which one of the youngsters can come in and start for us the quickest. My bet is Manny will come in first.Rod Wright if he gets his work rate sorted in pre season may also start sooner than later.
Jeff has been solid for us and the sands of time are going for Traylor as well IMO.
 
I like Zgonina. I'll miss him. I can see myself telling my kids or grandkids about him. About how he helped the team rebound from their second ever losing season as part of the NFl, and how he selflessly took the role as a very effective role-playing back-up. Not to mention the great Bills comeback. He was a part of that as well.

Umm.. I don't think you send Rod Wright to NFL Europe to play with intensity. Those situations are reserved for players who need playing time. Rod Wright was a three or four year starter on a National Championship team and a first team All-American. No experience needed; just a kick in the rear...
 
I think Jeff is gone by June.
 
The maximum the Fins keep is 5 every year considering that a couple of the guys have to be able to play 3-4 DE.

Zgonina will be cut and one of the DTs between Vickerson, Rod Wright, and Evans will be on the PS. Evans switching to guard would also change the situation.

I hope to God we don't put Rod Wright on the PS. If the shoulder story is true, someone may snap him up really fast, once its fixed.

if he does need surgery he will be on the injured reserve and not count against our 53 untill next year
 
i think zgonina is gone and holliday is counted as a DE and so we will keep all of them but zgonina
