Jermichael Finley re-signs with Packers, franchise tag for Flynn?

Please God franchise tag him so I don't have to hear about this **** anymore.

Top 5 of who should start for us next year :
1. Peyton
2. RG3
3. Weeden
4. Jason Campbell
5. Matt Moore

jason campbell...get some sleep my friend

Jason Campbell isn't that bad, but definitely don't want him here if he's expensive and with others available.

1.Peyton
2.RG3
3.Tannehill
4.Moore,Campbell
5.Weeden

It is my understanding that the new CBA prevents teams from franchising a player for the sole purpose of trading them. I do NOT think that Flynn is going to get franchised.

well if thats accurate i don't see any way he gets tagged either...if you can't trade him and recieve compensation when he's tagged no way they're paying that kid $14 mil to backup rodgers for one year...hell they could probably get him to sign a long term extension for around $6 mil more guaranteed and they're not gonna do that either...

if he can't be traded as a tag flynns hitting the market...got to be

@ 14 mill he will be making more than Aaron this season.. Only way this happens is if the Pack has a team lined up. Btw i believe the tag and trade was supposed to be forbidden in the previous CBA also and obviously teams politiced their ways around it then.

Uh, he's almost inarguably better than Matt Moore. Not sure what NFL you saw last year but Campbell was having a damn good year before he went down.

there aren't many people on this board who saw or see more nfl league wide than me...that said i'm not looking for a arguably better qb than matt moore...that i won't argue with on campbell...i'm looking for a difference maker...not a guy who everywhere he's gone the teams looked to upgrade in no time...your not getting blood out of a turnip just like your not getting jason campbell to take you to the promised land..he's a known quantity and its not good enough

Yeah I wasn't saying that Campbell is some beast quarterback, but if we miss out on both Peyton and Flynn (I hope we miss out on Flynn) then I'd rather rely on Jason Campbell next tear than Matt Moore. We can sign Campbell cheap and still draft a rook qb.

But as you can see I still had him ranked under RG3 and Weeden so I'm hardly in love with him.

No way Flynn gets tagged. They don't have the cap room. They'd have to cut guys, and not resign other guys, in order to make the room. And if Flynn didn't leave quickly via trade, they'd be stuck with a horrible cap situation, unable to sign their draft picks.

Not a chance the money they would have to pay him is too high and they can't tag him just to trade him according to the new Cba.

I read over the pdf format of the new CBA, and there is nowhere that I can find that even talks about the Franchise tag. In addition a team can elect to franchise a player and allow them to negotiate a long term deal with another team but compensation is 2 first round picks if another team signs the franchised player or the teams can elect to work out a trade for less compensation.

With that said I think it would be extremely difficult in regards to the Packers salary cap to franchise there backup qb and risk paying him 12 mill this season if they can't work out a deal with another team.

I heard that franchise tagging just to trade a player was banned. Either way I don't think it happens.

1.)I don't think anybody would be willing to trade their first for Flynn especially not us with a top 10 pick

2.)IMO Flynn isn't worth the big money in the first place.

thats the part that bothers me right there...there's no doubt in my mind that right now whether its legal or not flynns agent has feelers out for his client and teams interest and also there's no doubt in my mind that there is a strong possibility the pack have had contact with some teams about compensation for the player...this stuff happens all the time...flynns agent will probably be at the combine searching for suitors and the pack will be looking also to see if they can work something out...2 1st round picks will never happen but if they can find someone to part with a 2nd lets say in a tag and trade scenario and incorporate that guaranteed $14 mil into the terms of the deal with the new team i think its still in play...

no doubt in my mind many of these potential free agents already have feelers out for interest and if not they will this weekend at the combine when they have a league wide audience at their disposal

if they tag 'im and beg a 1st for a 7th-Rnd unproven #2-qb... and we bite... it's tantamount to 'murder-suicide' (imo)

According to PFT, Jermichael Finley just signed a new two year deal with the Packers. He was expected to get the franchise tag if no contract was reached. Now that he has a new deal, I wonder if they place the franchise tag on Matt Flynn.

I'm not convinced that signing Flynn to a huge contract is the best idea and if he's going to cost a high draft pick, forget about it

Why would a 2 year $15M deal be such a bargain for a TE??? Really?? I am sure his deal is mostly guaranteed. Again - for a TE??? That is serious money. Rogers made all their receiver look all world. $15M - 2 year for his age and experience. That is serious coin. He knows his stats will NOT be better anywhere else. 2 more years with that system and Rogers and he gets another big payday. I think he got a good chunk of money and is still able to hit FA with a new TV deal and a higher cap #. People shouldn't think his agent was doing the Pack a huge favor here. I think he made a smart contract - gets big money per year and a shot at a monster deal when things will really increase.

As for Flynn, you saw how Philbin followed orders and didn't raid the coaching staff. Not one coach. I am sure there has been dialogue about Flynn. No doubt in my mind about that. We'll see when FA hits how he pursues Flynn but i don't see the Pack sticking it to Philbin if he genuinely has interest there. I really am hoping he does because that means he believes he can be the franchise QB they need.

this is just me talkin here but if you have plans on bringing in campbell you might as well just stick with matt moore...another guy everywhere he goes people look to upgrade him...the raiders liked what they saw from campbell so much prior to injury that they went out and traded 2 1st round picks for carson palmer...they know what everyone else in the league knows and thats campbell and matt moore aren't get you over the hump qbs...they're stop gaps
