Jermichael Finley re-signs with Packers, franchise tag for Flynn?

I can not even begin to describe how much I dislike the franchise tag. Come on they can just slap that on a BACKUP QB and now we're supposed to give up our first rounder? Thats a top 10 pick. The only thing this helps is the packers and teams that are in the lower 10 in the draft, aka playoff teams. So now instead of getting a good shot at Flynn, we will have to make a huge commitment to him before we can even see him play. If we give up our first and a big contract for an unproven player it is near the same risk as a lets say Andrew luck. Or tim Couch... I just dont think its ethical to tag a player just for your own gain. This league is supposed to be fair, but this doesn't accomplish that at all. What if we give up our first next year for flynn. Flynn bombs, we suck and the packers end up with our #3 pick. Alright enough ranting, just tired of teams putting such huge prices on their unproven backup QB's that hardly ever succeed (Cassell, DA). This sucks.

I agree with you to a point but at the same point I do believe a team that has put 4 years in to develop a player to a starter in this league deserves compensation. As far as un-proven that is true but I would feel a lot better if we sign him since our new head coach knows him pretty good. This is also why I expect Seattle to make a run for him because there GM has Packers ties.

yeah he was hurt already but your missing the point...you don't pony up 2 1st round picks at the deadline if you feel like you have a legit qb still in his prime in house...not one who would recover from injury in time for the 2012 season...the raiders didn't like what they saw enough from campbell to wait on him...they moved on in a nanosecond...tells me that they viewed campbell as a stop gap...its not like that injury was a career ender or anything
ya i understand what your saying, i agree. truth of the matter is i wouldnt trade 2 1st rounders for carson palmer regardless of the situation, he has not been the same since that achillies injury, and hes only getting older. then again, it is the raiders, not exactly the smartest franchise when it comes to decision making.

Or maybe they shouldn't have let there head coach make GM decisions.

omg...he took 2 years and $15 mil...give that kid some smelling salts...he took a massive team friendly deal...only thing i can think is he LOVES being a packer and knows in 2 years at 26 he'll be on the market again

jeesh...that contract says to me tagging flynn is still very possible...what a bargain for the pack...why can't we pull off stuff like that
7.5 million is A LOT for a TE.....plus he can still land that Vernon Davis type contract during the prime of his career, whether with Green Bay or wherever

its actually pretty smart on his behalf, because so many young athletes believe their gonna see the whole 7 year,$50 million dollar contract.....More often than not, their cut by year 4.

I wonder if there is any chance we franchise Paul and trade him. Don't the steelers need a nt?

the deal tells me finleys betting on himself...cause he definitely left guaranteed money and a good chunk of it on the table by signing this 2 year contract

The Packers are a smart organization, no way they franchise Flynn. The price would be too much for most teams to consider, would instantly put GB over the cap and would force them to cut a lot of players they do not want to let go. Its a situation where they are going to have to let him walk away for free. They had a chance to trade him last year when several teams were inquiring about him, but chose not to and take this risk. That speaks a lot towards what kind of solid player GB thinks he is. They could have had a 2nd rounder for him last season. Flynn will hit the free agent market.

I don't think they will tag him but if they do we need to move on to someone else.

Ozzy rules!!

The Packers tag him they might want to control where he goes (AFC Team) instead of a conference opponent

well, if he is as good as many people on here make him out to be, then why not franchise him?

any desperate team would give up that for a qb, especially for one who many people talk about like he is this great qb. why not get compensation rather than letting him walk.

if hes as good as people seem to think ( not me) a team will give the packers what they are asking for.

to allude to your point about how the packers are a smart organization, i agree and that is why i dont see them franchising a guy like flynn who is average at best and taking that risk on being stuck with his contract at 14 million
