They overturn the call on the field. The officials in the Miami vs Jets or Packers? I can't remember which one called Chambers a TD and the idiotic refs overturn the call. Which interpretation is correct? Instant replay has paralyzed officiating. By the way, the Budweiser comercial with the Zebra reviewing the play was the best comercial.

I agree Davester, they are paralyzed and are afraid to make a call. I love replay, but I wonder if it's for the best. I wish there was a way to research if it hurts or helps. It appears to help, but calls like you just brought up say otherwise. Unfortunaly, there's no fool proof plan but the league needs to do a better job holding the officials accountable for their incompetence.

If there wasn't instant replay, the refs would look even worse. Instant replay is necessary, and that was a touchdown. Chambers catch was also a touchdown, but both were similar plays. The refs stiffed the Dolphins out of a win against the Jets.

I don't know. At least if there wasn't instant replay, the refs wouldn't be making calls 5 seconds after the play. ala fumble on the kickoff at the superbowl. The guy was about to come running in calling the ball down and he froze up because he knew he was going under the microscope. You can't get rid of it now. It is here to stay but it needs to be fixed and I don't know how to fix it.

Well one way to help with fixing it is to have them all take a frickin' class on what the RULEBOOK says.

Case in point: Miami and Packers monday night. Chambers catches a ball then precedes to fumble. It is ruled an inomplete pass, Green Bay challenges. The refs rightfully tell them and the public that a play like that cannot be reviewed under the rulebook.

THE VERY NEXT PLAY, Lucas fumbles it and Green Bay recovered again. Once again it was ruled an incomplete pass one the field and once again Green Bay challenged it. This time the refs reviewed the play!!! Same exact as the play before yet they reviewed it, called it a fumble and said that Green Bay recovered it. However, since it was ruled an incomplete pass the Dolphins would maintain possesion where the Packers recovered the ball!

This is how confused and ignorant the refs really are. Consecutive plays exactly alike yet two different calls. Unbelievable.

I guess it goes to show that idiots and machines do not mix. You have to be smarter than the thing your working with.

I think the refs use instant replay as a crutch whereas if they get it wrong the coach can always challenge it and get it overturned if they want.

I think they should fine refs for bad calls that influence games heavily. The niner-giant playoff game refs should be fined there paycheck for that game. In fact, whenever the league has to send out a letter apologizing to the team for what the refs did or did not do, they should fine the ref and give it to the team. It might not give the team a win but at least they know the ref was hurt form the call too. What do you guys think!

Yeah...and then they reviewed the push out of bounds (2 point conversion)...these refs need to be more consistent.

i argued the point too. in the 2001 rule book, that was a TD. but they changed the rule in 2002, a receiver must maintain possession, the ball can't hit the ground!:(

Oak wanted it reviewed, but it was not...it should have been called complete since there is no way an official can say he would not have come down in bounds if not pushed

the TD catch was a great a catch and a completion. Unlike Chambers where he lost the ball, Porter never lost possession of the ball.

First thing is that they need to make the officials full time. Then out them trough off season training and education. Then have them report to training camps to practice so they can be in tune with the speed of the game.

AFter that it is up to the Refs to control the game, make good calls, and provide thorough explanations. Like Ed Hochulie. Did you see the Playoff game he did? He explained everything thoroughly ans was right on top of the game.

Porters TD he did not maintain possesion of the ball. Before he gained total control, he had the ball turn in his hands. Chambers was more of a completion. The ground caused him to lose the ball after making the catch. At least thats how I remember it.
