jet/dolphins tiebreaker doesnt make sense to me

Imagine where we would be if we could pull off a win against a backup QB led bills team coming off a bye at home and an inept Buccs team coming off a mini-bye.

These losses were inexcusable, and if we miss the playoffs because of them, the coaching staff should be fired. No excuses

Don't forget the Pats game. I could see losing to Baltimore, but Miami had NE on the ropes at the half. This coaching staff's inability to make meaningful adjustments during a game should get them all fired.

who cares..we are not going to the playoffs..as much as i have faith that some how this team can turn it around, i dont see it happening

We control our own destiny guys. We play the Jets twice. We beat them both times and beat the Steelers we are practically in.

right now we're tied with jets for last wild card, but jets win the tiebreaker based on better division record. but shouldnt the tiebreaker be conference record? we're not tied for the division, we're tied for an afc wild card. division record should have nothing to do with it.

Division is where it all starts. If we looked at it the way you are thinking, where it's AFC wildcard, well the whole playoffs is AFC or NFC, So the division winners shouldn't get an automatic playoff birth, because that's only the division. Meaning, if the Broncos and KC both have a better conference record than NE, then NE should be fighting for a wild card spot. See what I mean?

That is not true. if Miami beats only the Jets 2 times and the steelers, they will be 8-8. if the ravens end up 8-8, Miami is out. Miami's best chance of making the playoffs is going 9-7, and hope that the ravens don't go 9-7.

We probably have a better shot of winning the division than winning as a wildcard spot. There is only 1 spot left open for that, whereas if we shoot to win the division (run the table), we will get in 2 possible ways.

Team Record Win % of remaining opponents Div. games remaining
New York Jets 5-5 .483 2
Miami Dolphins 5-5 .525 4
Baltimore Ravens 4-6 .500 2
Pittsburgh Steelers 4-6 .475 4
Cleveland Browns 4-6 .450 2
Tennessee Titans 4-6 .483 3
San Diego Chargers 4-6 .689 4
Oakland Raiders 4-6 .600 3

I think it's safe to assume the raiders aren't going anywhere, I would be more worried about the bills making a run than the raiders. The raiders play at dallas on a short week and still have to play denver and KC.

vs jets
vs pitt
vs minn
@ det
vs patsies
@ cincy

I could see them going 4-2 with all those home games, but they way this season has gone and how bad the ravens have been at times , 3-3 is more realistic, imo.

That's a killer 6 games, they are getting a Jet team who wins one then losses one (the lost last week), Pitt is playing its best ball right now, AP is dangerous against anyone, the Pats will destroy them, Cincy is tough hopefully they will need that game and Det is a playoff team.....I think 3-3 is the best they will do, 2-4 is more like it.

i can't believe you really asking this question...why would you think are division games so important ?

It's always been division record 1st, within your division and that's the way it should be.

However, sir, I do recall one year, we beat the Raiders, who had the same win-loss record as us, but the Raiders got in because of best record within the AFC Conference.

All things equal, if jets win we lose the "similar opponent" tie breaker. We need Baltimore to win
No and ifs or buts

Totally Agree. This team is 7-3 if it's ready for 2 games against what seems like sub par competition. No excuses.

Ravens play the jets so either way a team we need to lose gets a loss. Question is who do we root for? Obviously we want the win vs the panther but with them playing good ball it's going to be tough. For hypthetical reasons say we lose then do we want the jets to win since we can control our own fate with two games left against them? Or do we want a jets loss that ends up in a 3 way tie for the wc and praying we win more then they do the next 5 weeks? They do end the season with the lions, bengals and pats which is much tougher then out remaining schedule. However beating the panthers ensures us that either the jets lose and we can afford to split with the jets havig a game up on them or a ravens loss ultimately takes them out of contention being two games back and ending like that.
