New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington threw for 3,352 yards and 17 touchdowns last season.

New York Jets coach Eric Mangini decided to cut out any offseason quarterback drama and named Chad Pennington the team's starter for next season, ESPN.com reported.

"Chad did an outstanding job for us as the starter and he is the starter," Mangini told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Pennington rebounded from his second shoulder surgery last year to be named the 2006 comeback player of the year and led the Jets to the playoffs. He completed 64.5 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 3,352 yards and 17 touchdowns with 16 interceptions.

Kellen Clemens will get a shot, if he shines in preseason and Chad struggles or is banged up Kellen could start. They are very high on Kellen Clemens.

This is a tough decision for them. They need a stronger armed QB but you can't deny that Chad's smarts and leadership is good to have on the field.

We don't need a stronger armed QB, we just need Chad to be healthy.

I would think this would be a no-brainer. Pennington has the smarts and the leadership that makes the Jets playoff contenders, so the job ought to be his until he loses it.

A fifty cent arm coupled with a million dollar brain will win a lot more football games than a million dollar arm and a fifty cent brain as the career of the infamous Rob Johnson clearly demonstrates!
