Jimmy Johnson as GM

I'll take Andy Reid. Absolutely.

Two losing seasons?

This would be his third. One super bowl appearcence...Alot of playoff success..

Developing 3 quarterbacks and trading them all for 2nd rounders?

If we got Reid and Luck we would be in the super bowl in 3 years.

u write this and then have the audacity of posting a link to something ARMANDO wrote as proof??? are u out of your mind?? its doesnt even say anything. jimmy threatened to bench marino and didnt and marino said **** you??? thats your story??? wow thats weak. plenty of QBs get into with their coach. aaron rodgers did early last year with his.

doesnt change the fact MARINO asked jimmy to give it another year. JUST LIKE I SAID.

and your "revisionist history" and goof-ball ideas dont account for the fact Jimmy Johnson drafted: Jason Taylor, Pat surtain, Sam madison, and Zach Thomas - 4 all pros YEARS after he was LONG GONE from the college game.

Jimmy KNEW TALENT. its as SIMPLE as that. its not up for debate, there are no ifs ands or buts. its a FACT and there are men with rings and yellow jackets walking around that prove it

Jeff Ireland:Jake Long, Vontae Davis, Mike Pouncey(questionable), Cam Wake(found him in the CFL).

See, two can play that game and some talented players doesn't mistake the flaws Ireland has as a General Manager.

Lets just leave JJ to what he does best, Extenze commercials.

That was just one incident but there were many others that occurred between them, after that season they hated each other. Don't know how you can remember that JJ wanted to retire the prior year, but not recall that there in no love lost between JJ and Marino since after that season....

Thank you Jimmy "knew" talent. that's what I said, but he like everybody else gets some right and some wrong. Currently there are no rings or yellow jackets for any Fins he drafted, because they were not as good as his Cowboy drafts, because he was farther away from the college game when he got here, again, thanks.

With regard to your revisionist history...I was not referring to the draft iwas referring to your version of Marino Begging JJ to stay so he could play for him. I stand by this statement "MARINO HATES JJ." did he always dislike him? idk.

But after their last season together it is a fact. Now go argue with somone else.....I'm going back to work.

The reason JJ did well drafting in Dallas is he traded Hershel Walker to the Vikings who also sucked ( better draft position) for a mint of draft choices and starting caliber players. With both teams drafting early there was a glut of talent available. Remember Dallas didn't win the Superbowl until they signed Charles Haley away from SF ...and had picked #1 overall just the year before. Jimma was such a control freak the forbade Marino from changing the play at the line of scrimmage. Has he traded Marino for a Hershel like deal who knows what might have happened. JJ the control freak would not play well with his underlings enough to do well in a GM role IMHO.

oh ok i see. sure you dont what to check out that trade again?

Jimmy Johnson also built the Cowboys team he did when there was no salary cap. He never succeeded in the NFL once the salary cap was implemented in 1994. When he returned to the NFL in 1996 to coach our beloved Dolphins after leaving the game in 1993, he did hit on some very good players in the draft, however he missed on just as many. He built a very good defense, but his offensive draft picks were for the most part all duds.
The scale of talent between the offense and defense on Johnson's Dolphins teams were greatly unbalanced, putting the weight of the teams success on an aging Marino's shoulders and then taking away his ability to audible away from Johnson's game plan when needed. Johnson never had any measurable success in a salary capped NFL. Also, for as much as all of us love those defensive players, that unit also always folded and melted down when it actually mattered.

OH i see....now its AFTER the last season. so basically when they were both DONE with the game and it didnt matter anymore. hmmmm. guess that doesnt have any impact on the fact marino asked jimmy to stay and coach another year does it??? which u ORIGINALLY tried to dispute

Amazing how Dolphin fans can look back on a period of consistent playoff contention in a negative light even after a decade of failure. I realize the Super Bowl is the ultimate goal but wasn't it nice to at least go into a season believing there was a chance the team you rooted for could make it to the final game?

his failures dont matter because his successes were so tremendous. IF jimmy johnson had remained in Miami and continued to discover talent in the draft with the proficiency that he already had in miami. the miami dolphins would have had multiple super bowl championships under johnson. in any given 10 year period of time more than half their starting roster would have consisted of players among the top 3 at their position in the entire NFL. with that type of talent, miami wouldnt have even needed a franchise QB to win championships.

Jimmy Johnson's decisions at the end of his coaching tenure had a lot to do with us spiraling downward and entering into a decade of failure. After the last three years, I for one have had enough of hiring old coaches who achieved their success in the late 80's and early 90's . The game has changed a lot. About the only position I would even consider having JJ in would be a consultant role in which he just gave his opinion, and who ever is on staff could do with it what they wish. Definitely not in a make or break role like GM. Also, there is no way JJ is leaving his co-host spot on FOX or his boat.

Jimmy did have an eye for talent. I remember after the first JJ practise he said only two guys had make the team. Larry Izzo and #13. Izzo was a late round pick who never played much linebacker but went on to 4 pro bowls for special teams with the Pats. He built one heck of a defense but never got the offense right.

please tell me you are joking. because u are out of your mind. yeah JIMMY JOHNSON doesnt know ANYTHING about drafting. yep he "got lucky" with thomas. u should be banned for posting garbage like this.

jimmy johnson SINGLE-HANDEDLY built a cowboy team that won 3 super bowls and probably would have won 5 if he had remained coach. a team that was SO TALENTED barry switzer was able to win a superbowl in dallas. THEN he came to miami and in 3 years he had drafted 2 guys that should be in the hall of fame. and 2 allpros in pat surtain and sam madison.

THAT ALONE is more talent than we have had IN FIFTEEN YEARS COMBINED SINCE HE LEFT. get ur head out of u know where. wake up dude
Jimmy Johnson deserves a lot of credit for building a Dallas team that was among the best ever talent-wise. I think the further he got away from the college game the less successful his drafts were, or maybe he just lost intereste. Johnson built a nice defense in Miami with Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. But he missed two hall of famers when he passed up on Rey Lewis and traded down and essentially missed out on Randy Moss. Bottom line, I just don't think Johnson would be the right choice now.
