Jimmy Johnson as GM

Jimmy got lucky in Dallas trading walker for all those draft picks.
 
i would love jj but i don't seeing it happen he has mentioned before, that he wishes he never left the U
 
unfortunately he built half a team.......... his defensive drafts were great, he missed on alot of offensive pics and quit on the team, then he gave Dave Wannestadt his stamp of approval and we all know how that went.........
 
I'd hire JJ in a heartbeat, as he is a talent genius on the defensive side of the ball, but he'd never do it. He quit because he was burned out, and I haven't heard he wants to come back.

BTW, I hate it when people try to damn a guy because he passed on a certain player. With that kind of logic, every GM in the history of football is an idiot.

We could go on all day here. JJ had some miserable drafts in Miami. Downright miserable. He wasn't good!

So picking in the top 5 every year is what makes a draft guru. I never knew.

excuses excuses. You said name teams. I only named a couple. There are about 15-20 teams that drafted better than JJ did when JJ was in Miami. JJ hit on like 3 or 4 guys in 4 drafts. Thats not good. And most if not all of his early round picks BOMBED!!!

Other teams drafted much much better and got many more contributors in that time span

Forgive me if I assumed relative value was implied. It seemed obvious to me at the time.

Green was a great player that suffered from an unfortunate string of events. Avery was a bust. JJ to me was defined not by all the pro bowlers he found in the mid rounds but guys like Burton, Bromell, Pritchett, Tanner, Haley.....he just had a knack for spotting potential that he could harness. He missed 80% of the time but inevitably he'd find one every year, and every couple years he'd land a Zach Thomas or Brock Marion or Leon Lett.
 
The impressive thing about JJ's time in Miami is that he drafted 4 Pro Bowl players, including possibly 2 future Hall of Famers, and not a single one in the first round. I wonder what would have happened if he had been allowed to trade a fading Marino for picks and bring in his own QB.
