Jimmy Johnson Coaching Tree of Failure!!

I think Norv has an excuse to suck, he barely has a team...yet they still are better than us, given in a weaker conference.
I'll give Norv one more year, but I don't think the Raiders will be any better. His record with the Redskins isn't great either.

The fact is, the Jimmy Johnson tree of coaches have had success at the college level but not at the pro level. None of his assistants that went on to get pro coaching jobs have had success.

Someone brought up the Bill Parcells coaching tree. Well, it's not that impressive either. Sure, Bill Belichick has two superbowls off that tree, but that tree also produced Ray Handley and Chris Palmer. Tom Coughlin is also a member of the Bill Parcells tree.

The Bill Walsh tree is where it is at. Very few of the coaches that have coached under him or coached under one of his assistants that went on to be a head coach have failed as a head coach.

Holgren might be canned, talk about Shanahan getting canned? Who else coached under Walsh?
Denny Green, Holmgren. Seifert, Wyche...add to that the "off-shoot" coaches like Gruden, Billick, Shanahan and Reid....

Not too bad.

Does anybody know if there are any current OC's or DC's that were assistants under walsh? If so, would we want them as our next coach?

The ones that coached with Walsh were Sam Wyche, Mike Holmgren, Dennis Green, and George Seifert. It seems that all of those coaches spawned off other head coaches.

Mike Holmgren's assistants that became head coaches: Steve Mariucci, Jon Gruden, Andy Ried, Dick Jauron, Marty Mornigweigh, and Mike Sherman.

George Seifert's assitants that became head coaches: Mike Shanahan, Ray Rhodes, and Jeff Fisher.

Dennis Green's assistants that became head coaches: Brian Billick, Tony Dungy, and Mike Tice.

Sam Wyche's assistants that became head coaches: Bruce Coslet and Mike Mularkey.

Some of those assistants begat head coaches as well. Dungy begat Herman Edwards and Lovie Smith. Billick begat Jack Del Rio and Marvin Lewis. Jeff Fisher begat Greg Williams.

Jim Fassel also coached with Walsh at Stanford. Pete Carroll was on George Seifert's staff in San Fran.
