Now as we all know Jones is a starter barring injury, dude has taken a large step forward, super large step.

The other spot is up to Wilson or Clemons.

Personally I want Chris, he isn't a ballhawk, we all know that by now, but he is a great communicator, and it was proved when he started in 2010. Another thing that stood out to me was in his interview he said he WAS the leader, that to me shows want. Him a Jones would make a great S tandem IMO of course.

So who you guys got?

Let's see how Jimmy goes in the preseason games. He has shown flashes of good play and he seems to have built up a bit. I think that he may have bigger upside than Clemons.

I like Chris Clemons. He's got tremendous range, he's good in coverage and he doesn't let anybody beat him deep.

I like Wilsons story and would love to see him succeed, but whoever is the best safety for the fins is who I want to start.

It's going to be great to see these position battles in camp this year.

If Clemons can regain his form from 2010, I agree the safety position could be set. Wilson is a guy who is hard to over look and can see him playing his way into a much bigger role on the "D". He may eventually unseat Clemons as the starter as well.

Chris is a 4.3 Guy, not to many Free Safety in the league run that fast. As a last line of Defense, give me Clemons everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

i don't ever want a guy that lacks instincts for the passing game as a starting safety...no matter how fast chris clemons is if he's late all the time reacting to the ball vs the vertical passing game or can't locate the ball when its over his head or lacks ball skills it's not gonna add up to much...

give me jimmy wilson...

I think clemons will have it just cuz he has the speed to close the gap better than anyone we have. His chances are getting numbered tho, we can only wait for him to take control of that spot for so long.

I really like both of these guys, and expect them both to contribute to our great team. But if I could only have one, I'd go with Jimmy Wilson. I think he hits harder (although Clemons has put several nice licks on guys) and has better hands.

Instincts over speed all day. Its funny how people forget just how important instincts are in the game of football at a time when people fall in love with triangular numbers.

Dead on.

Clemons is head and shoulders above Wilson at this point. I don't think it's even close and I don't believe the coaches think it either. Philbin has been asked about Wilson a few times in interviews recently - I wouldn't go as far as calling it "damning with faint praise" but he hasn't exactly been effusive either. I think he's a versatile, situational guy for the moment and a bit of a work in progress.

Clemons will start, imo.

You may be right but I'm genuinely surprised that you see Clemons as head and shoulders ahead of Wilson. It's good to see competition for the position. I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up recruiting another safety who gets released from another team.
