Jimmy Wilson - DB - Dolphins

The Dolphins will keep Jimmy Wilson at safety this season.

He'll likely be Miami's third safety behind SS Reshad Jones and new FS Louis Delmas. Wilson can also cover the slot in nickel packages, though that is a theoretical strength of Cortland Finnegan, as well. Wilson turns 28 in July and is entering a contract year. He may have more value to another team in 2015.

For me personally, I think Wilson will end up seeing time at that safety spot this season because of Delmas' injury history. Makes me think that we should have re-signed Clemons, especially since he got barely over $1 million a year.

Also looks like we're in the market for another corner, considering we're not sure about Finnegan's health/effectiveness and the inexperience of Jamar Taylor and Will Davis.

Jimmy Wilson at safety...Southbeach you were wrong again!

To be fair, Wilson has been more of a hybrid defensive back, playing where needed. If I'm not mistaken, he spent a lot of time last season playing the nickel/slot.

He definitely played a lot of nickel. But yeah really wish we would have brought back Clemons over Delmas, he got a dirt cheap contract. A lot if hate on here for the guy. But I think Wilson will start multiple games at safety due to Delmas' injury risk factor (I think he played all 16 last season, but still)

I don't know what to think of Wilson, I like his fire but I just don't think he is oozing with talent. I hope he fills in well and I really hope Delmas proves me wrong too and plays at a high level

I'd like to see Taylor step up and be one corner with Finnegan as the slot. Jimmy is a decent third safety and very good on special teams so he'll still get plenty of playing time.

I saw an interview Delmas had on Finsiders and he seems like a real jack off. He said with him and Finnegan we should expect lots of penalties due to their style of play. Maybe he's just being honest but I didn't like that answer. i don't think Philbin will either.

he was the starting nickle...nothing a lot of time about it...he started as your 3rd corner in the slot in the nickle...sounds like that's gonna change this year...i feel for the kid a little they asked him to gain weight and play safety one offseason then decided in camp he's the nickle corner where that added muscle isn't a good thing then last year at least they kept him at corner all season

i would think he's gonna compete for snaps with the nickle corner group yet again...i'd feel more confident right now at least with him as the 3rd or 4th corner than i would with will davis i know that much even though davis and wilson should not be asked to handle the same responsibilities as a corner

He's a total mediocrity. Has some instincts and can hit explosively but is sluggish in his change in direction and not instinctive enough to make up for it. Always seems to fail to make the big play and wears a target in big moments.

He's not a safety. He's not a corner. He's not really anything. If he's your starting nickle corner, your defense is probably not very good.

Wow... What a dickbag thing to say

Think Davis will be improved at all? He really looked weak as f*** out there when he went in. All that camp/preseason hype died down real quick. I just hope Taylor can turn into a good starter

Agree completely. The only thing special about Jimmy Wilson is that he was acquitted for murder. He's just another guy on the football field and his next contract will be at, or close to, the vet minimum.

That is my concern with Davis as well. Will may have the sort of natural instincts and good hands to be very good at making interceptions, the sort of talent that can't be taught. It wasn't luck that he shone in training camp last year. However, he needed to build up and get a lot physically stronger. He is an experiment, but there is terrific upside. He is also an obvious high character guy if you have watched him in interviews. Extremely impressive, great natural personality and smart. If he makes it onto the team he will probably become a bit of a high profile personality - he's so good in interviews, the media will love him. I hope to hear that he's put on 10 lbs and is physically stronger. However, if he hasn't, there is the risk of him getting physically dominated by WRs. He is a very interesting prospect, maybe Ireland's late acorn who takes off.
