Jimmy's alleged best two strengths (outside of his play on Special Teams) are getting under the skin of opponents and analyzing the Offense, interpreting where the DBs need to be. He would play predominantly on 3rd downs in the slot and he was effectively the QB of the DBs. This came out in the Finsiders interview last year and John Congemi effectively said that most fans (me included) had no idea of Jimmy strength in setting the Defense. It wasn't Brent Grimes or Dimitri Patterson or Reshad Jones or Nolan Carroll who made the calls, it was Jimmy and Kevin Coyle knows it. Unfortunately, Jimmy also lacks speed and height and on some plays was embarrassed.
The fact that they have effectively removed Jimmy from his slot CB role from last season with players like Taylor, Finnegan, Davis and now Aikens in the mix, means he is just an undersized backup Safety and good Special Teams player now. I expect Finnegan to be making those calls in the slot this year and nobody gets under the skin of opponents like Cortland Finnegan.
I understand that statistically, less than 10% of 7th round draft picks make it past their 3rd year in the NFL, so Jimmy has defied all of the odds to make it this far. He could well be on the bubble and battling Mike Thomas for a roster spot.
Jimmy served time in jail in Montana and was later discharged. He knows that he was lucky to get a second chance and I'll bet he's fighting damned hard to hold it. Mike Thomas probably has superior upside but don't underestimate Jimmy.
