Jimmy Wilson

Wilson is a special teams ace but if last years rookies develop one of them or Finnegan could take his nickle spot. Should be a good battle.
I think that Joe has already stated that Jimmy is not playing the nickel spot (he's mainly ST and just a backup safety if he makes the roster), depending on how Taylor, Davis and Aikens perform at Training Camp, I'm pretty sure that the gameplan is for Finnegan to play in the nickel.

When did he say this? Im not stating your wrong, i just dont remember reading or seeing anything about that. Jimmy was pretty good in the nickel last season, i wouldnt say its gurenteeed he loses that role this season automatically.

I am hoping the two rookies last year step up and Courtland bounces back to form as well. But I am also hoping Jimmy takes a step up too.

mike thomas looked pretty damned good last year in the handful of games he played.

the guy had just signed his deal in december and had NO time with the team in practice or playbook.

jimmy wilson can and should be replaced. if they want to keep him as a some special teams guy, whatever, but he gets exposed a WHOLE LOT, he loses track of the ball easily in the air and gets punked hard on wr's double moves and jukes. make up speed is almost nill.

in this day of the high flying, pro bowlers across the board wr's nfl, you can not have ONE week link in your secondary on the field. this is why the seahawks are able to shut down these kind of 20 points a minute teams, they have a BIG TIME secondary with exellent players at every spot in their secondary, cb and safety and real talent coming off the bench, excellent depth.

jimmy isnt some 2 year player, he has been with us a for a few now and hasnt developed any more than what he is. i see a poster saying maybe he will have a starting gig and break out year after delmas is gone but the problem is, jimmy's talents are what they are. there is nothing more and his game is not enough. gives up way, way to many crucial plays, especially on the deep ball.

but i will say this, if finnegan is returning to his old self [as he says he has and looked the part during ota's] and delmas are balling, this secondary will be the best we have had in YEARS!! and i just have this feeling about walt aikens. something tells me he is going to be a real player, sooner than later and if he gets regular time in the secondary with grimey and courtland, yowza!!!

He's barely a good CB

huh? when was that? he was just a body at the position when there were injuries.

and the reason why he is a safety now is because he wasnt a good cb.

Mar 25, 2014 - Jimmy Wilson will continue to develop as a safety "for right now" Joe Philbin said. He'll compete for nickel role with Cortland Finnegan.

My apologies. I got the first part right but totally misinterpreted the key second part of his statement. I heard the interview and I obviously didn't listen hard enough because my immediate reaction at the time was one of surprise that they were putting Jimmy back to Safety because I thought he was pretty solid in the nickel.

I followed that case in real time. I doubt Wilson's story. If a video and audio of his actions that day were available, I think he'd be locked up for a long time. Too bad the Miami media lacks an aggressive and fearless investigative reporter to talk to the Montana locals and follow up on that case.

I'll be happy when Wilson is no longer on the team.

Jesus Christ, if you followed the case so close in real time as you state than how come you think the Miami beat writers should interview Montana residents when the shooting actually happened in Lancaster, Ca and he was held in jail and tried in LA County? Some of the bull**** lies you spew are just to ****ing obvious.

Jimmy's alleged best two strengths (outside of his play on Special Teams) are getting under the skin of opponents and analyzing the Offense, interpreting where the DBs need to be. He would play predominantly on 3rd downs in the slot and he was effectively the QB of the DBs. This came out in the Finsiders interview last year and John Congemi effectively said that most fans (me included) had no idea of Jimmy strength in setting the Defense. It wasn't Brent Grimes or Dimitri Patterson or Reshad Jones or Nolan Carroll who made the calls, it was Jimmy and Kevin Coyle knows it. Unfortunately, Jimmy also lacks speed and height and on some plays was embarrassed.
The fact that they have effectively removed Jimmy from his slot CB role from last season with players like Taylor, Finnegan, Davis and now Aikens in the mix, means he is just an undersized backup Safety and good Special Teams player now. I expect Finnegan to be making those calls in the slot this year and nobody gets under the skin of opponents like Cortland Finnegan.
I understand that statistically, less than 10% of 7th round draft picks make it past their 3rd year in the NFL, so Jimmy has defied all of the odds to make it this far. He could well be on the bubble and battling Mike Thomas for a roster spot.
Jimmy served time in jail in Montana and was later discharged. He knows that he was lucky to get a second chance and I'll bet he's fighting damned hard to hold it. Mike Thomas probably has superior upside but don't underestimate Jimmy.
in other words, hes got "killer's instinct" . pun intended.
