Enjoyed listening to Joe Greene talk about Art Rooney on the radio. He talked about how nervous he was doing the Hall of Fame introduction speech for Rooney.

Then he talked about the 1969 draft and how there were four teams he didn't want to be drafted by --- Boston, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Green Bay. He said that with Pittsburgh it was the cold weather and ugly uniforms. I wonder if he felt the same about the other three teams. Just found that to be kind of funny.

Since then, of course the Boston Patriots have become the New England Patriots and made a terrific uniform change IMO.

Others talked about how the owners and staff ate in the same cafeteria with the Pittsburgh players. I don't know if that's still the case, but the Rooney's ran football very much like family with just three head coaches as well since 1969. Says something about stability.

Good Coaching mixed with continuity in plans and direction is something we have been lacking. Hopefully the relationship between Gase and Ross will flourish and Gase can lead us to improvement and the promised land :)

I doubt very much that any NFL team will ever match what his organization did in the 1974 draft

It was a different game back then as far as free agency goes. You were able to keep most of you great players together for longer periods of time.

Four Hall of Famers in one draft is pretty unreal.

The thing that's interesting, too, is that the Steelers haven't really changed much as far as the type of player they look for. How many changes have most teams gone through in coaching, schemes etc. Must be something to that.

Hopefully Gase will be in Miami and have success for a long period of time.

I've always had a lot of respect for the Rooneys and the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. RIP, Dan Rooney
