Joe Johnson Wants Out of Phoenix

Joe, I've got bad news for you: they're going to match it.

They always say they will even if they won't. In this case though I too think they will. Billy Knight to me is as bad as Isiah just nobody cares about the Hawks. ( I live in the ATL, trust me nobody cares_)

The Suns' Paul Shirley had some hilarious things to say about that very thing in his online diary last year.

Who on Earth would want to play for Atlanta? And don't the Hawks have about 12 swingmen already?

The Hawks are so desperate they will play Johnson at the point, which I guess is a better option than Boris Diaw or Tony Delk..

The Suns have to re-sign Johnson. Losing Johnson and Q-Rich would be detremental to their outside game!

You're half right.

I would be shocked if the Suns fail to match the offer.

It looks like he'd rather become a star on a crappy team that nobody goes to see than fourth banana on an exciting contender that sells out every night.

Or maybe he wants that GOLD CLUB action in Atlanta.

(if one other person understands this above comment I will be surprised)

 I'm not sure what it says about me (or you) that we're on the same wavelength here. Who wouldn't want in on that action? The ATL has more strip clubs than anywhere else in the country. Although I thought they closed the Gold Club down for the, um, extracurricular activities going on there.

I just loved the GOLD CLUB trial and all of the athletes and pro wrestlers that were forced to testify and speak of um, all of the things that went on in there! The transcript of Eric Bischoff and his wife on the witness stand talking about the 3-ways they had in the backrooms of the GOLD CLUB is must reading material.

I think it did close down but someone may have re-opened it "under new management". But Im not sure to be honest

I'm only half joking when I say this, but why doesn't Hawks management try to pitch the seedier side of their city more in free agent negotiations? Let's not kid ourselves, there are PLENTY of pro athletes, in all sports, that would absolutely love to live the bachelor lifestyle with a multi-million dollar salary in a place as happening as Atlanta. Mind you I don't know exactly how the average free agent recruiting pitch goes (having never been one myself), but I'd have to think that Billy Knight would be smart enough to tell guys "this is a happening city. Sure the team sucks, but you will live like a goddamned pimp here." How many players would fall all over themselves to take the Hawks money if they sold it that way? I bet a lot would.

They'd be foolish not to try and reopen under new management. With that much free publicity, who wouldn't want to go there? I would think the publicity of a trial where the strippers were actually having sex with athletes would practically be a license to print money for the new owners.

The Knicks would spend their off days down there. That should tell you something. I think they said Patrick Ewing was like a staple at the place he was there so often.

So you see my point. Why don't the Hawks take advantage of this?

If I recall, Ewing had to testify at that trial, which is good because it meant he had to speak extemporaneously. Ewing speaking extemporaneously was always high comedy.
