He told them not to match the offer he's getting from Atlanta.

GreenMonster said:They always say they will even if they won't. In this case though I too think they will. Billy Knight to me is as bad as Isiah just nobody cares about the Hawks. ( I live in the ATL, trust me nobody cares_)
RWhitney014 said:Who on Earth would want to play for Atlanta? And don't the Hawks have about 12 swingmen already?

Muck said:It looks like he'd rather become a star on a crappy team that nobody goes to see than fourth banana on an exciting contender that sells out every night.
MikeO said:Or maybe he wants that GOLD CLUB action in Atlanta.
(if one other person understands this above comment I will be surprised)
phunwin said:I'm not sure what it says about me (or you) that we're on the same wavelength here. Who wouldn't want in on that action? The ATL has more strip clubs than anywhere else in the country. Although I thought they closed the Gold Club down for the, um, extracurricular activities going on there.
phunwin said:I'm only half joking when I say this, but why doesn't Hawks management try to pitch the seedier side of their city more in free agent negotiations? Let's not kid ourselves, there are PLENTY of pro athletes, in all sports, that would absolutely love to live the bachelor lifestyle with a multi-million dollar salary in a place as happening as Atlanta. Mind you I don't know exactly how the average free agent recruiting pitch goes (having never been one myself), but I'd have to think that Billy Knight would be smart enough to tell guys "this is a happening city. Sure the team sucks, but you will live like a goddamned pimp here." How many players would fall all over themselves to take the Hawks money if they sold it that way? I bet a lot would.
They'd be foolish not to try and reopen under new management. With that much free publicity, who wouldn't want to go there? I would think the publicity of a trial where the strippers were actually having sex with athletes would practically be a license to print money for the new owners.
MikeO said:The Knicks would spend their off days down there. That should tell you something. I think they said Patrick Ewing was like a staple at the place he was there so often.
