When Dolphins coach Joe Philbin was Green Bay's offensive coordinator, he would speak to the team on Saturday mornings.
"He'd call them his 'Saturday Cup of Joe,' " Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recalled. "And I always enjoyed those. He's a guy who could always control a room, and I always enjoyed hearing about what he was doing whether he was going to the father-daughter dance the night before or a book that he read in the offseason he thought was applicable to the week and to the message for the week.
"He was always great at being able to convey the message that we needed to hear that week."
This depiction of Philbin might come as a shock to Dolphins fans. They recall postgame lockerroom videos of a robotic Philbin reading to his victorious team from index cards. They see a fairly serious Philbin on the podium after practices.
Rodgers, a starting quarterback for four years (2008-11) under Philbin, sees the Dolphins' coach much differently.
"I owe a lot of my success to working under him," said Rodgers, who might be the best quarterback in the NFL.
