Joe Philbin interview 3/27

It seems Richard Marshall is unlikely to be the starting free safety. He may well take Sean Smith's starting CB spot

Also interesting his Matt Flynn quote ("you'd have to ask Matt why he's in Seattle")

Philbin also praised Smith, so I expect Marshall will be playing Nickel CB.

The reason why Matt is in Seattle is simple, $$$. Seattle offered more than we did.

When you consider the FA signings, Gerrard, Marshall & Hicks, all cap-friendly signings to create depth and competition. Nobody is guaranteed a spot, they have to earn it and keep it. I love it!

Joe Philbin said:
"Gates has great speed and you're always looking for a vertical presence in the passing game. The other guys are unknown quantities to us and there is not a lot of game film to study at this time," Joe Philbin said. "We want precise route runners, disciplined route runner....We want a guy who can beat man coverage. It's a one-on-one games and we have to find guys who can win the match ups on a consistent basis."
Sounds like Philbin studied Gates last year before we drafted him. Also sounds like Hartline may be in trouble since he struggles winning his one-on-one matchups.

Hartline struggles winning his one-on-one matchups? Wow i can't believe you said that! Then again fans have been saying other crazy stuff this offeseason Too. IMO its clear as day Hartline has the potential to be similar to Jordy Nelson in this Offense and Hartline being white has nothing to do with it!

He is going to thrive in this offensive system...

just remember this about philbin. He set up the offense week in week out and studied the opposing defenses and what they did in coverage. And he adjusts at halftime. So all you suckers sitting inside staying out of the hot sun will miss alot IMO.

You must be one of those fans, lol. Tell me how Hartline, who saw single coverage every game thanks to Marshall on the other side, only came up with 35 receptions and 1 TD last season? The guy has 1 TD in the last 26 games. Jordy Nelson? LOL Hartline will never be Jordy Nelson...Willie Nelson maybe, but not Jordy Nelson.

Its quite alright not everyone can see clear talent or ability when its biting them right on the ass.

I actually think Hartline could do very well in Philbin's system.

Not sure if it'd be on the same level as Jordy Nelson, but I think Hartline could find success.

Marshall at corner is real scary and I wonder what he meant by that comment . I wish someone would really answer the question lol

Hard to tell whether that is in stone or not, it's still March and we have the draft ahead of us. A lot can still change.

Only thing I would take away from Philbin's presser is that every position is up for grabs.

The quote about Matt Flynn leads me to believe that it was either about money or Matt didn't like his chances against moore. Tavaris Jackson must seem like easier competition.

Prob more aboiut the money Jackson or Moore have nver been so awesome that a potential qb qould sign elsewhere because they are there. Probably also a factor that Seattle prob has better offensive weapons overall

No free agents in 9 years? Holy frickin crap, seriously? That is amazing.

Philbin is wrong there. Granted the Packers don't dive into free agency much but maybe he was just referring to the offense.

On April 26, 2006, Charles Woodson and the Green Bay Packers reached a 7-year contract agreement that could be worth as much as $52.7 million with bonuses and incentives.
