Joe Philbin plans to add athleticism to Dolphins' line

Philbin should kick Ireland in the ass for trading away Samson Satele...he was as versatile as they come

Athleticism is something you are born with. This is like saying that Philbin plans to convert a lineman to a wide receiver because he knows something about genetics that we don't. Confirmed! Philbin is really a genetic specialist~!

I also kinda liked Samson ... HOWEVER ... the Raiders just let him go & he was up for grabs with no real takers ...

Indy just signed him last month 3/21, & Indy's almost as cheap as the Dolphins ... so he doesn't appear THAT popular as far as talent goes.

He'll sure get some publicity snapping to Luck!!

Satale is athletic, but he never really added the strength needed. It's really no shock that the Raiders were at their best when he didn't start.

Do you know how many games we lost during one of the seasons when this team had an athletic interior line that was dominant at the point of attack? None.

This was done with virtually all FA's on the line, including a semi-pro refugee (Kooch; think like getting an Arena League reject), a non-entity from Bethune-Cookman, and several other retreads.

NOT with all 1st-round draft choices.

The team you reference had a FIRST-ROUND QB, a first-round FB, and an All-Pro WR obtained via trade. All are in the HOF.

Your cause and effect is backwards, though. The nonentity from Bethune and the obscure center are in the Hall of Fame. Kooch should be. They're not there because they were free agents. They're there because all three were great.

The idea of picking a player in the first round is because you think the odds are high that they are going to be great. Beathard found a great interior line for giggles. You probably can't duplicate that, but you're more likely to by picking first-rounders.

DeCastro is the pick that has the best chance of starting right away and having an immediate impact; not only by plugging that gaping hole on the right side, but by being dominant at the point of attack. It's more than a matter of replacing the Twin Turnstiles; it's putting together the kind of attacking, mobile interior line that fits a WCO. The passing game opens up if you run successfully because it increases your options. That was true in '72 and it's just as true now.
