Joe Philbin: QB Matt Moore is ready

I look at it this way. Even if we draft Ryan Tannehill, he isn't ready to start, so Matt Moore it is. There's absolutely nothing that anyone can do about that. I'm glad that he played well at the end of last year, so there's something to hang our hat on. I'll root for him to pick up where he left off last year, and hope that this new offense increases his productivity, which was pretty good in 2011; to my surprise.

I actually think losing BM was a good thing for Matt Moore. As I rewatch the games from last year, Marshall was constantly bitching and crying like a little girl whenever passes weren't on target for him. That type of attitude doesn't build chemistry with your QB or teammates; it's actually counter-productive. If we can get an electric rookie WR to come in and contribute at the very least, I believe we'll be fine with our WR corps. The most catches Greg Jennings ever had in a season was 80; he had 67 last year. Davone Bess had a down year in 2011, but the previous two seasons he averaged 77. Addition by subtraction.

go read up a little bit on Matt Moore's 2010 season with the Carolina Panthers...

the story line sounds eerily familiar.

takes over mid season.. leads team to a bunch of wins down the stretch. declared starter in training camp going into 2010 season.. Carolina has one of worst seasons of all time.

seen it before, get ready to see it again. Moore isn't the answer. sorry boys

I thought you said you were going to read up on Matt Moore's situation in Carolina? You know, how he was concussed and rushed back too soon, and started to play like **** after that, at the same time John Fox was running Carolina into the ground (look at the decisions he was making).

Honestly, dont talk down to people as if you have all the facts when you either gloss over a majority of the factors surrounding his situation or you are simply ignorant of them.

so lets revisit this "overlooking of history"

Matt Moore leads carolina to an 0-2 record while playing AWFUL... and i mean AWFUL football. under 43 percent completion percentage in those 2 games. 2 TDs... 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles lost.

Matt Moore was sacked by Osi Umenyiora at the very end of that season opening game. so we cant blame a concussion on this beautiful game ... 14-33 182 yards. 1 TD 3 INT and a fumble lost.

Matt Moore then comes back to practice 3 days after the game after being cleared by doctors and says he feels great and should be ready to go by Sunday to play the TB Bucs. Plays terribly AGAIN, and is subbed out for Jimmy Clausen.

Matt Moore gets benched for the next two games in favor of Jimmy Clausen. Note. he was not benched due to his concussion. but poor play.

So after Jimmy shows how awful of a quarterback he is over the next few weeks, they finally pull the plug on him late in the game against Chicago, where Matt Moore comes back in right where he left off... 2 more interceptions.

Matt Moore goes into the buy week as the starter again, and actually puts up a nice game against San Fransisco following the bye week where he goes 28-41 with 308 yards 2 TDs and 1 INT. not a stellar game, but a productive one that leads Carolina to their first win of the season.
He then follows that game up with a another dud .. 23-37 194 yards 1 TD and 3 INTs.

Next week, he gets hurt early in the game after doing next to nothing again, and he is shut down for the year.

So in summation... he was not rushed back too soon from a concussion. He never had the chance to say you say "play like **** after that" because he was playing terribly from day one.

I don't talk down to people at all. don't gloss over factors. and most certainly aren't ignorant. I do however call a spade a spade, and when someone starts conjuring up hearsay or nonsense I'll call it out.

so what exactly is incorrect about my assessment Matt Moore's season with Carolina in 2010? all i see so far, is with one season as the anointed starter from day one, he spearheaded a one-way path to the #1 overall pick in 2011. There are plenty of people here who swear by him and think he is the answer for us at QB, and they are more than entitled to their opinion and love to argue back and forth when there are facts to back them up.

It's a what have you done for me lately league and lately Moore has played above average football. Can he play even better? Nobody knows but I will be rooting for him......You could mention his time in Carolina where he played very well. I guess that's to much to ask for though. You can only prove your negative point by bringing up the negatives huh? I'm not trying to bash on you or anything and I'm not saying that your ignorant or whatever it was the other poster said, but I just think to be a fair realist you have to look at both sides of what Moore has done so far. Not just the negatives.....or positives for that matter. Give the guy 1/10 of the chance that we gave Henne and see what he does and hope for the best

you call a spade a spade but don't accept that it's not 2010? People can change you know, we all aren't the same person all the time. Maybe things started clicking for him? Maybe he built some chemistry with this team? Our front office at least gave him a competent competitor to duke it out over the summer. Slowly I think they are realizing that they may have something in moore to build on.

sounds like a backhanded compliment to Moore because what else are they supposed to say at this juncture ?

It's obvious this coaching staff wants a major upgrade at the QB position, and for obvious reasons. Moore just doesn't have it, nor will he ever have it to lead you anywhere,, and that's just as obvious.

If you think Philbin is happy or content in going to war with Matt freakin Moore as his QB you're absolutely crazy

this post was a response to me being unfair about the circumstances of matt moores terrible 2010 season but i started off by saying this entire situation of matt moore for the dolphins is shaping up eerily similarly to carolina's.

where he played AWESOME in relief of Jake Delhome in 2009.. then when he was handed the job in 2010 blew his shot.
so i did mention his time in carolina. i did give both sides. but it is waaaaaay to much to ask for to be allowed a negative opinion around here

On the post that I commented on you certainly said nothing about Moore playing well at any time. You started by saying AWFUL in caps. Another post or thread, maybe you did. Either way just pointing out that both sides should be looked at.....and also just because Moore was cleared to play by doctors after the concussion does not mean that the concussion was not still affecting his play on the field. It's not that simple

So let me get this straight... he gets concussed at the END of game 1. where he was awful. comes back the next week plays awful before getting benched. doesnt play for THREE weeks. comes back and continues to play terribly until week 9 where he gets hit again and is out for the year. how much longer would he have been able to sit out before the concussion wouldn't be able to be used as an excuse? he didn't play well before the concussion. right after the concussion. or months after it.

It all depends. There were lots of changes going on in Carolina at that time. There were many factors other than just the concussion. John Fox is an idiot. The only thing we know for a fact is that we have seen Moore play very well/almost elite at times and that we have also seen him play mediocre/poor at times. Unlike Henne and the rest of the losers we have had, Moore has at least shown greatness at times. He also has not really had that many career starts so I think it's fair to say that he has quite a bit of potential to get better, right? In 2009 he did have a 99 QB rating right? Name a Dolphin QB that has put up a 99 QB rating other than Danny Boy? Even 2008 Pennington was not that high. I'm not saying Moore is the definite future or anything but there is some good evidence to support the theory that he can be.

first of all, want to take a step back and acknowledge a thank you, that we can come back from the hooplah and talk football lol.

there is most certainly evidence that he can play at a high level, just as there is plenty of evidence to support the opposite. compared the dreck that we have been used to since Dan retired, Moore looks like the cream of the crop.

Where i stand on the entire situation is based on one simple criteria. Is he good enough to win superbowls?

There is no doubt in my mind that he can win us some games, but when it comes down to the two factions on this board that believe either "he is the qb that can get us there" and the "he can't and still need to address the QB position".

I am clearly on the side believing that until you have a guy who can win you the big one.. you dont have your guy yet. i dont think hes that guy. can he win a few games. sure. but in the long run... we are just chasing our tails until we find the guy.

Ok. Suppose our Oline would have done their job last year and Moore's fumbles were cut in half thus taking his QB rating from his actual 87.1 to a 94 or whatever it may have become. Don't you think that we would have been a dominant team? We certainly would have beaten Dallas and Denver. Hell we might have won our last nine straight. Would that have been good enough?

Would that have been good enough for what? to make me believe he is a Superbowl caliber quarterback? No it does not.
And no that doesn't make us a "dominant team". we would have been far away with competing with the Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, Houston (with a healthy matt schaub) just in the AFC.

Not sure how you can say going 9-0 or 8-1 to finish a season while your QB has a 90+ rating isn't dominating. That's about as dominant as you can get
