I love the hire of Joe Philbin and the idea of bringing in Matt Flynn to be our Hassleback / Shaub.........I just wish we had kept Mike Nolan.

I think our offense will naturally improve with an aggressive offensive minded coach. This teamed with Nolan's D could have potentially been very, very good.

I am delighted with hire, but a little, just a little downhearted with what could have been.

Everyone needs to get over the Nolan thing. He is gone, lets move on.

I don't get the love for Nolan when his defense is the main reason the Fins went 0-7 to start the year and they have never been aggressive for an entire game. That style of play does not sound like what Philbin wants from his team.

Nolan is/was overrated.

He is so overrated that Atlanta is staying at 4-3.

He also never had an elite defense, and his defense never showed up for a whole game, just wasn't good enough

We lost some games late because Nolan's unit couldn't close.. but realisticially, he's really more than just a tad better than average DC. It's fan human nature to throw some dirt on his grave now that's he's gone.

However, he's far from irreplaceable and hopefully Philbin in his infinite wisdom will select someone (other than Todd Bowles) with the skills, leadership, commitment, fire and chessmaster-smarts to make us forget Nolan even before the 2012 season ends.

We went from what? 6th to 22nd in defense? Regression like that warrants a change.

I think Nolan is a pretty solid coordinator. It wasn't his fault that he had absolutely nothing to work with at CB after Vontae went out with that lingering hamstring injury. That said, it's not the end of the world that we lost him and when I read earlier in the season that Nolan would walk if Sparano was fired, I just chalked that one up under "very acceptable losses."

I have to wonder had he stayed if, Philbin would have fired him. Philbin wants aggressive which is something Nolan wasn't while holding a lead late in a game.

Man Nolan's D totally caught us off guard this past season. Shoot I was telling my buddies to watch out because "we had a number 6 defense last season blah blah blah we're only getting better with burnett" yeah right, Nolan should of never let us slip like that. I wonder what really went wrong because now thinking about it.. we had no pressure at all in the beginning of the season!

Nolan wasn't as bad as some of you are making him out to be. It's not his fault that key players came in from the lockout not having taken proper care of themselves. Dansby came in 30 lbs overweight. I mean, really. The guy must have spent all summer eating twinkies and playing Xbox. Vontae came in out of shape, and there were a few others too. I knew we were in for trouble when I saw so many defensive players sucking wind in the 3rd quarter of that opening game against the Pats. I thought they were going to have to bring a gurney out for Dansby and take him directly to the hospital during that second half.

Yes Nolan could have been more aggressive when closing out games, but don't lay our 0-7 start completely at his feet. The players should take a good portion of that.

As far as Philbin goes, I was impressed by his demeanor and quick mind at the presser. But I'm not going to proclaim him savior or goat yet. After the coaches we've had over the past decade, I know better. We'll see whom he hires as his coordinators and see what they do with the QB position first.

Great point, and yes it was embarrassing having our boys on the sideline sucking on oxygen after a lousy series! I can't believe Dansby was 30lbs overweight.. it must of been intentional because you dont just gain that much weight.

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE OFFENSE was the main reason we went 0-7.

THE OFFENSE. We were a pathetic, putrid red zone team , league worst I think.

We scored an average of 1 td per game, and the rest fg's.

Nolan was good, but can be easily replaced.

It was time for him to go, seen too many times where we have a lead early and he chooses to change his gameplan from aggressive to convservative and it cost us some games.
