In doing some quick research, I looked at what Joe Philbin's record was since 2012 in games decided by 4 points or less. His total record since 2012 is 8-10 in these "close ball games".
2012 (3-3)
Wins: Cin, St.L and Sea Losses: NYJ, Ariz and Indy
2013 (5-4)
Wins: Indy, Atl, Cin, SD and NE Losses: Balt, Buf, TB and Car
2014 (0-3)
Wins: NONE Losses: GB, Det and Den
The data shows a few things to me. One, it is remarkable how the close ball games actually reflect his overall record as coach. Two, as he has gained more experience as a coach and with his roster, he is trending downward in close ball games. Three, I have stated this since 2012, Joe Philbin's teams cannot finish games. People can blame the coordinators and players, but at the end of the day the HC is responsible for situational football and Philbin's teams have not been up to the task.
