This morning Joe Rose interviewed Ron Rivera inhis morning radio show here in South Florida. Joe and Ron have been friends for a while since it was Joe Rose who showed Rivera the Cal. campus while Ron was visiting during a recruiting trip back in the 80's. Both of them played together in Cal.
He seemed like a really nice, down to earth guy. He made the point to say that there have been many asst. coaches who were defensive coaches and had good success as HC. I believe that if we go with him as a HC he would be a guy the players would like and he would have a good report with the media here.

I wouldn't mind Rivera but Joe Rose also said he preferred an Offensive minded coach. Rivera is a defensive coach and Rose being his friend saying he would rather have an offensive coach sorta makes you go hmmm.

Eh...Joe Rose was a tight end. I think the guys with an offensive background always want the coach with an offensive background and vice versa.

Yeah, I can't say that I'd use someone like Joe Rose as my guide when it comes to making a head coaching decision. That said, I don't think it matters what kind of background {offense / defense} the new head coach comes from. I think his overall leadership qualities are more important than his area of expertise.....

PHINZ RULE!!!

If we get another defensive coach I'll puke. But I will stop puking if he hires an outstanding OC who can take care of our anemic scoring woes.

I prefer an offensive minded coach simply for the fact that we have had defensive minded coaches for the last 10 years and it's gotten us nowhere.. Let's try a different direction, one that leads to scoring more than 13 points a game..

Yep, those ex defensive coordinators stink as HC's. Just ask the Pats fans. :shakeno:
Actually, the type of coordinator is irrelevant. Some guys are just cut out to be HC's and some are not.
Billick was a sought after guy because of his success as an Offensive coordinator, yet the personality of the Ravens is their defense.

I got a problem with him....

His defense this year was dominant....

he then lost Tommie Harris...they weakened....

they then had some minor injuries..and they went completely to crap.

His defense is only as good as it's players. it isn't his scheme.

I wouldn't mind him...but I am not getting the confetti ready either.
