Palm Beach Post Miami Dolphins reporter, Joe Schad was on Sirius NFL radio this morning. He made a couple of interesting comments.
(1) Jarvis Landry is apparently delighted to get the franchise tag.
(2) He suggested three established players who will be cut in the near future to give us some cap space are Lawrence Timmons, Julius Thomas and Ja'Wuan James. I was particularly surprised with the Ja'Wuan James inclusion because I didn't think he was bad and had some misfortune getting injured and missing the second half of the last season. BTW - Schad wasn't just floating these names as possibilities, it sounded more like he knew.

The issue with James is the money. He did play better when not injured but does Miami feel they can find consistent good play at RT at cheaper money?

100% correct, James is a solid RT but he has missed the majority of the 2 of 3 seasons with injuries. his contact is not guaranteed, so I would not rule out him being re-signed with guaranteed $ but at less cap hit.

Unfortunate side effect of taking so many Olinemen in the first round. The cost is prohibitive. We have 3 first rounders now and some of us want more...

Coaching needs to fix the oline with coaching, not more expensive players.

wow, a cool million $$$ per game! Is it me, or is the $$$ kinda perverse in sports?

Based on his production last year (987 yards) he's getting pain $16,210.00 per yard!

Man, that's like the "cost" of a 1st down (10 yards) is $160k!

well worth it since he is the only one moving the chains

Jarvis should be elated. Like in $16M reasons to be elated. The Dude is getting paaaaaaid!!!
you do realize that Miami will work out a long term deal right? Obviously they are sick of losing talent they develop

I think when resigning a player you don't just look at last years play but the entire body of work. The money spent on athletes in sports is contingent on the revenue your league generates.

If ping pong got billion dollar tv deals, sold out 70,000 capacity stadiums for $100+ for a ticket, made millions/billions off merchandise and so forth we would see a rise in 1. People trying to be professional ping pong players and 2. Ping pong players salaries.

Bingo!

People like to point out his YPC or TD production but completely disregard his third down conversion rate. Landry keeps our offense on the field, plain and simple.

Landry 7th best in the league last year with 60 receiving first downs. Keenan Allen was #1 with 74

7th is good.

If you have access to the numbers, I'd like to know how many offensive snaps the Chargers had and how many the Fins have. Obviously, the more offensive snaps a team has the more opportunities you have to make first downs.

Also, how many of those first downs came on third or fourth down?

Not trying to argue, just wondering what the numbers are. If you have a link to the stat site your using I can check myself. :)
