Say we are lucky enough that Quinn is there when we pick at #9, and we pull the trigger on him. Odds are brown will not be available when we pick in the 2d round. Whats everybodies thoughts on Joe Staley ?

According to espn.com:

Staley is a converted tight end who has gained more than 70 pounds since stepping on campus at Central Michigan as a true freshman in 2003. He isn't a powerful drive blocker and he must continue to improve his overall strength. What impresses us most; however, are Staley's outstanding feet and mobility. On the flip side, it's rare to find an offensive lineman with such quick feet and 4.8-second speed in the 40-yard dash. Staley held his own early in the 2006 season against top-competition (Boston College and Michigan), which helps considering most of his playing time came against mid-major defenders. While he's far from a finished product, we think Staley has enough upside and proven skills to warrant a late-first or an early-second round selection in the 2007 draft.

I'm sure there will be someone of better value at #40, such as Sidney Rice, a CB(possibly like MCauley), or an OLB/DE like Crowder or Spencer.

I think he will slide. He had a poor showing at the senior bowl. He might be a pro-bowler in 3 or 4 years. If we picked up a late 2nd or if he slid all the way to the 3rd, I'd take him, but not with the 40. Mueller has said he is looking for 2 or 3 immediate impact players.

If we get Brady Quinn (which I hope we do), we'll need to protect him. And with D-Mac possibly leaving in FA, we need someone to help protect his blindside. Shelton's better off at RG and Alabi's still unproven. Joe Staley's got good agility despite his size, something that defines whether a LT is good or not. He just needs to hit the weights and bulk up or else he'll turn into Wade Smith II.

i would luv to get Staley in the 2nd if we get Quinn in the 1st, but i think hell be gone by the time we pick, either to the raiders or the cardinals in the 2nd

Since LT is so highly coveted he will get a lot of looks.

I like 2-3 Guards better with the second pick. Unless they sign Dielman I would go that route.

I just find it amazing that the same people who would knock Levi Brown, a true LT who has been playing the position for four years will suddenly accept a guy like Staley with pick 40. What the f?

Hes a TE who ate his way to the LT spot. Hes also demostarted the incredible ability of finding his way to injuryed list atleast once a season.

Sure hes got potential.......

If we don't take a LT in the 1st round then I wouldn't take one in the 2nd...history tells us that most great LT are taken in the 1st round so if you're gonna draft a project(which we already have Alibi)then you don't do it at 40 imo.

Ozzy rules!!

God I wish we had just picked McNeill at #16 last year.

I'm usually not very big on guys who converted from this to that.

but I have heard a lot of good things about this guy.
I would much rather draft a true left tackle than him, but you never know.

I'm on the fence about this guy. I keep going back and forth over all of these types of situations.
