Does anyone know exactly what Joe Toledo's knee injury was? As far as I recall he didn't pop an ACL or anything like that. Was he shelved for a year because he wasn't ready?

Too early to say bust? This guy spent more time injured than he played in college and then he has a season ending injury during practice? Hope this isn't how we address the line next year :tantrum:

Too early to say ignorant statement? If I remember correctly, Joe only had one significant time-missing injury in college. Then a freak injury in our training camp. He was slated to be not only the primary backup, but looked good enough to potentially win the starting RG position. To get that out of your 4th round pick is anything but a bust, it's a steal. But you go on living in your world of negativity.:shakeno:

He probabaly took a Belichick-style redshirt. He wasnt going to be ready this year, and they didnt anticipate losing 5 right guards on the season.

"The main knocks against Toledo are his lack of experience at tackle and a history of injuries."

"Toledo suffered a high ankle sprain in the 2005 season opener and missed six games. In 2003, he played just three games because of a back injury. He red-shirted in 2001 after suffering a broken foot in fall camp."

Lets do some research before we talk about ignorance:

2001: Redshirted the season after breaking his foot in fall practice ... missed six weeks of practice to rehab the injury

2003 - Appeared in just three games during the season due to injuries (**Plural, which would indicate different injuries).. missed five games due to the back injury before returning for the USC game ...did not play in the final four games of the season (does not say why)

2004 - sat out Fresno State game with groin injury

2005 - has been limited to just two games this year after suffering an ankle injury during the first game of the season. (this was posted on 10/5/05)

Joe has a number of serious injuries at UW, including shoulder, foot, knee and most worryingly, back.

My understanding is that his injury was a knee ligament sprain. I would think that would put him out 4-6 weeks, that's why I was surprised to see him put on IR.
On the same note Will Poole had a stress fracture. That is not a serious injury either.
There must be more to these injuries than the organization is saying.

LOL, wasnt Toledo undrafted or a 7th rounder? How could a guy be a bust if we didnt even spend anything for him? come on...

It was surprising, but I have a feeling they wanted the extra roster spot and decided to "redshirt" him for the year, not knowing that RG would turn into a disaster. In retrospect probably another error in judgment by Saban and the staff, as his injury never seemed serious enough to warrant a trip to IR.

Joe Toledo cannot ever really be a bust since he has never really done anything in college or the pros to have any real expectations out of the guy
Don't blame him because we took him higher in the draft than he deserved to go. He sure does look pretty at the combine.

I don't think Saban really made a mistake putting this guy on IR because he would be just as bad as what we already have if not worse. This is his first time ever playing guard, so even if he has some talent he was going to have problems. Every year we get too excited by a few guys in practice that never do anything in a game. Kendell Newsome sound familiar. Toledo can never stay healthy as Boomer and others have pointed out. This guy is a project in every meaning of the word. Oftinjured and inexperienced what a combo.
