I looked at the numbers, here is what I found to suggest whether or not the Dolphins were prudent in signing Joey Porter.

I think you are right, Joey Porter is a great signing

One more thing...Joey Porter is only one of two LBs in NFL history with atleast 60 career sacks and atleast 10 career interceptions.

Great point and work on putting together these stats. You make an excellent point and I'm sure some could put together some other argument or stats to say he's not worth the money we paid. But who cares. He's on our team and I and every other phin fan truly hope he excels in his new role and takes our D to the next level. Our D was tough before and I think we are that much closer to being an elite D that every team fears facing. Joey also will bring an added level of leadership (which I think Zach and JT already have built). I also believe JP will bring a new level of intensity to the D and really get some guys fired up. I think with this addition, we are going to make every QB we face VERY nervous when they step up to the line. If we can add a top notch DB (or two) in the draft, then we will be approaching teams like the Bears, Ravens, etc. as a dominating def which control the tempo of the game. I'm VERY excited at this addition and now we can watch Cam and Mueller get to work on the offense. It will be a great thing to watch!

Charts and graphs are fine but remember the stats are related to Porter playing with the Steelers not the Dolphins and at a younger age than he is now. What he did with the steelers in his younger years may or may not relate to what the future holds for him in Miami. I think like all signings time will tell the true story of what teams actually get. Even if the player doesn't live up to their past stats many times they are still an upgrade from what the team had previously so why worry about what the so called experts say or write. All that really matters in the end is winning. Nice job with the charts.

I want to see Channing Crowder upgrade his level of play this year and make it to the Pro Bowl. Imagine that ... having FOUR Pro Bowlers as linebackers.

Channing will have some of the best role models in the NFL to help him get there. If Channing wants to be a star in the NFL like they are, this is the year he's going to need to showcase his talent. He needs to talk to JP, JT, and ZT all the time. Work out with them, watch game film with them, etc. They probably have some little things that they're doing that Channing needs to learn and do regularly in practice and in games. Channing's not a greenhorn anymore ... he needs to step it up this year so he can take a whizz in the tall grass with the big dogs in Hawaii next year. :D

4 possible pro bwlers as LB's that would be sick!!!!!! i think our secondary will be vastly improved also...these guys are young and gettign better

You are onboard with the notion that he has lost a step.

Porter thoughts from a Steeler

Great signing for the Dolphins IMO.

Porter has most definitely lost a step...but that just means he is still 2 steps better than most LB's

I was leading the TRADE JOEY bandwagon this off season....not because he could still not play, but because he was still a very good LB...and I knew he was one that the Steelers could not afford to sign long term....I really wanted them to get something for him.

They got many offers...but out of respect to Joey...they cut him loose so that he could go get the offer, and the team of his choice.

(Classy move by the front office, although a dumb one IMO....of course its better than the way the Broncos held Plummer hostage)

I feel Joey has 2 maybe 3 years left in the tank.....but what he will bring to the Phins in that time is an attitude on Defense, a mentor to young LB's, and a presence on the field that must be accounted for.

Where in my post did I say that? As you know I am a pats fan and we also had a pretty good FA signing but you know what I have yet to see pats fans coming up with charts and graphs to convince our selves that thomas was a good signing. I also haven't seen questionaire type post asking who got the bests LB in FA..who cares. Obviously Both are good players but their past stats are only indicators not the holly bible and those stats reflect what they did with their old team mates on their old teams in their old schemes. I'm sure both will help their respective teams and both are an upgrade to the players they'll replace.

I didn't do the research to convince myself that Porter was a good signing, I knew that before I wrote the article. I want to know why other people have a problem with Porter. I still don't understand.

It's true, we can not predict the future with 100% certainty. But past performance is the best indicator of future performance. That is why the Dolphins are paying Porter so much money.

I think most when they think of Porter they think of him running his mouth. Yes he is a trash talker but he's also a great LB. Then their are others who are just plain jealous. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what those so called experts/writers print, the only thing they have proven to me is they don't really know the game or the players so they print what will sell papers.

Dude, the Pats have had a great signing period. Joey Porter was a great signing for the Dolphins. The reason you see charts and graphs here is more because Dolphins fans are typically more hardcore than Patriots fans. Most Pats fans are relatively new.

Hardcore right as in porn addicts..Some of you Dolphin fans would complain if they hung you with a new rope. :D

I've been a pats longer than you've been on earth sonny.
