Now I can't offer up any links or websites but I know I have seen and heard different negative quotes about the substantial aquisition of JOEY PORTER this offseason.!! From where he's a big mouth that causes distractions,he's on the downside of his career, the Phins paid too much etc.... I just don't get it??? I have seen this guy play several times and I remember how much this guy dominates!! He single handedly was a huge factor in the STEELERS Super Bowl run. Colts-Steelers playoff game.He was in Peyton Manning's face all day and ate the Colts o-linemen for lunch. This guy fires everyone up on defense and I remember how great he would look in a Dolphin uniform!!Well my dream came true and he's now teamed up with JT to form probably on paper the best pass rush, which makes it even more scary for opposing offenses and this aquisition gets critisized??? What am I missing?? :fire:

I hope he does well Bro. But for a OLB in a 3-4 D he didn't get many sacks. i too think he will fit well, and reemember the good plays he made. Perhaps we did over pay him. Sometimes things like that happen, when you have a need at a position.

I only criticize committing as much guaranteed money as we did and that we had greater positions of need. If we lose Porter to injury or he is not that good for us we are stuck paying 20 mill guaranteed. Pittsburgh basically got rid of him because thier cap was tight but also they did not want to give thier new coach the headache of a posible holdout from Porter. Pitt has some pretty good replacements so I doubt they really will feel his loss much.

I have the same concerns as you do with Porter and a possibility of an injury. On the flipside of that if he does stay healthy I believe he will be a great addition to an already thriving defense. I think we did overspend a bit but to replace a fairly serviceable linebacker with an intense playmaker like Porter was an oppurtunity that could not be passed upon.

Whatever we paid him, (and it may have been too much) we are lucky he didn't go to the Jets, Bills or especially the Patriots. Can you imagine playing again'st him twice a season?
I saw the video of him firing the Steeler team up in the locker room, how long has it been since we had someone with that kind of fire and desire and that vocal in the locker room? I can just see those Somoan guys getting fired up off of his fire and intensity.

Chad Brown, Kirkland, Greg Lloyd

These players were stars in Blitzburgh and failed pretty bad in their new homes. But I will say Porter does get a really nice situation in Miami. If he sucks, he has no excuses. Time will tell I guess.

If Joey stays healthy then look out! First of all the guy is a beast. Today's expensive is yesterday's cheap! That is, just a year ago bust $2 a gallon on gas was troublng to the American public. Today $3.25 is not so bad.

Now watch this: If Blowy stays healthy you've got to deal with Jason Taylor and Joey Porter and Channing Crowder. That is 3 versatile, athletic, hard hitting linebackers that can attack your pocket and play the run. And of course I am skimming the surface of a talent PACKED front 7, that is quite deep.

Now if our secondary gets warm or even better HOT, which is possible we've got a shot at having a very special defense. That in and of itself is worth EVERY dime given to Porter.

My complaint with past bone headed regimes, like Saban's, is being cheap in the wrong places. Miami has been a bargain basement team because of poor management over the years...This has brought a frugel attitude to the game when dealing with certain guys that could have helped the team's chemistry... Drew Brees comes to mind, so does Olin Kreutz...

I appreciate management as having some foresight and guts to take a risk on a gu¥ who could put this whole thing OVER the TOP!

I wasn't thrilled when I heard that we signed him, and I'm still not, but I do think that it was a pretty solid acquisition overall. Like a lot of people already pointed out - he's on the downside of his career, doesn't get a whole lot of sacks, injury concerns, too much guaranteed cash, etc.

However, when he is healthy he can still be a borderline pro-bowl caliber player. Although he may not rack up the tackles and sacks that some people are probably expecting, he is one of the best players in the NFL when it comes to firing up teamates and/or riling up the opposition. His attitude and swagger will probably be his greatest contribution to the D.

Playing opposite JT can only help him. He won't be double teamed all the time and be freed up to make more plays IMO.

As a Pats fan, I would much rather have to deal with Joey Porter than Jason Taylor. Jason is ten times the threat of Joey. We have played against Joey several times over the past several years and he was never a factor in any of the games. He reminded me of a slightly younger version of Junior Seau. In such a hurry to get to the QB at times the play goes right by him.

Is he a good player? IMHO, yes. Do I expect him to be a big part of the Fins D by the end of the season? No, injury and age will slow him down.

You're not missing anything. [mod] Keep this thread on topic. [/mod]

I can't wait to see Porter putting people on their butts. Along with JT, Matt Roth, Truck Traylor, Paul Soliai, Vonnie, Rod Wright, and Abe Wright.

It's going to be a serious pass rush this year. It's like an avalanche of Dolphins "D!"

What if I said injury and age were to slow Adalius Thomas down?

Here is an interesting fact: Joey Porter born in 1977, Adalius Thomas born in 1977 ( Both putting up similiar stats in their careers)

Here is another: Joey Porter has missed a total of 3 games in the past 3 regular seasons ( racking up a total of 24.5 sacks)

With the shape these guys are in, I am not too concerned with a linebacker turning 30 yrs old.

The Steelers have a long history of getting rid of players that just don't seem to work out in other places, Chad Brown was just "okay" in other places, JP wasn't neccesarily that productive last year so there will be questions about him this year.

But in this case, he is coming to an already loaded defense, he should do fine, and he gives our "D" attitude that IMO we need.

Plus, he is a winner, that shouldn't be overlooked, a SB ring makes a nice motivator.

they are the same age but Thomas is more versatile and is playing at a much higher level than Porter. he was easily the best LB on a very good linebacking corp last year. Porter was not the best LB on Pitt.

I would have preferred Briggs from the Bears.
