Sorry if this was posted.... didn't see it.....
Life With Joey, Week 8: Let's break it down, day by day, like Ron Jaworski would a crossing pattern over the middle. Because could anyone pack more syllables or make more enemies in a few days?
1. Went to the game involving his alma mater, Colorado State, and after a touchdown by Gartrell Johnson he -- yes, that's Joey flying in from the back of the end zone to chest bump Johnson. Tweet! 15-year penalty for over-celebrating.
Porter said he asked an official if he could do it and the offical said he could. Then another ref threw the flag. Hate it when that happens. The good news: Colorado State made the extra point so the long-term effect is it's a humorous video.
2. At the Broncos game, he gets into regular shoulting match with Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall. "Took him out of his game,'' Porter said. And maybe he did, considering Marshall had a weak-kneed two catches. Porter, meanwhile, set his career -high for sacks in a season (11.5) by getting one in the win against Denver.
Marshall gets the only measure of revenge left him: He comes up with an inventive put-down two days later by saying Porter has "popcorn muscles." Hey, give me two days to come up with a good line and maybe I can do it. "Mashed potatoes muscles?" Squishy. Formless. And alliteration, to boot.
(For the losing team, the Broncos were awful mouthy. Karl Paymah, who was a five-alarm fire at cornerback, called Dolphins receiver Greg Camarillo an "average Joe." Camarillo had the best comeback: "If I'm an average Joe, I had 11 catches, most of them against him. What does that make him?"
Joe The Plumber?
3. Porter wasn't done. In a call with national media, he took on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and sideswiped Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones. The question that began it involved the fine he had to pay for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after the Houtson loss.
"If I knew the answers, I'd still have 20 more thousand dollars," Porter said. "But I'm still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens.
"He got caught with cocaine and Matt Jones is still playing football. How does he get away with that? And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs. The guy got caught with cocaine."
Jones was charged with cocaine possession last summer when a police officer in Fayetteville, Ark., arrested him for cutting up cocaine with a credit card inside a parked car.
Jones was suspended by the NFL for three games but he appealed the suspension and awaits a decision.
4. Up next for Joey: Seattle and memories of tight end Jerramy Stevens**. This isn't exactly Joey meeeting Cincinnati tackle Levi Jones last year after Joey and a few friends beat up Jones in a Las Vegas casino. But there's a history for Joey with this team going back to the Super Bowl when Porter was with Pittsburgh.
Steven said Pittsburgh fullback Jerome Bettis had a "heartwarming story" but it was going to be a "sad day when he leaves without that trophy." He also said of Porter: “I don’t think he is going to have such an easy day against (tackle Walter Jones)."
“He’s too soft to say something like that,” Porter said. “He’s going to have the opportunity to back up his words. I’m going to have the opportunity to back up my words. So it’s something I’m looking forward to and I’m ready to get going.”
Porter also called Stevens “a first-round bust who barely made some plays this season.” He also said a player of Stevens’ stature “has a lot of nerve” to say what he said about Bettis.
(**As mentioned, I neglected to say Stevens was with the Bucs now.)
Open question: Who would you like to see Joey take on next?
