How did this guy go from being the MOST FEARED DEFENDER IN THE NFL a couple of years ago. to being washed up and overpaid? Do you guys think he will resurrect under the new regime?

i thought he played much better the 2nd half of last season. I still think he's overpaid, but I also think there's something to be said for getting adjusted.

I don't think he is washed up at all. He is overpaid. He played well in the second half of the year and I would expect that to continue into next year (health has a lot to do with the improvement).

Hes going to be awesome in the Pasquelonis defense as it said that this man lives and dies with the blitz.

me thinks the real Joey Porter will show up early and often this year. Lets face it guys, the players were just going through the motions last year. THEY FREAKING HATED CAM, DOM AND BUNCH.

He ressurrected the second half of the year when Capers realized he wasnt a DE. You cant line Porter up at DE with him going against 350 lbs lineman and expect him to be anywhere near good... He is a passrushing linebacker, which is COMPLETELY different from a passrushing defensive end

I dont think he is washed up, just always been way overrated. He is too limited at LB for my tastes.

I did not think his career ever died......

There is a very simple answer to this question. He went from rushing the passer on the weakside of the offense to covering a TE on the strongside of the offense. If you were an offensive coordinator, where would you fear him more? And if you were a defensive coordinator, would you have him, Matt Roth, or Jason Taylor covering the TE? That was the dilemna of 2007.....

i think he just became incorrectly used until the second half of the season...

i dont think he was so grossly overpaid either... people seem to be forgetting how much the salary cap has grown... and everyone is just enamored with the guaranteed portion, but in full his 5 year 32 mil contract was less than adalius thomas' 5 year 35 mil .... and on par with many top linebackers in the league

Bingo. I think if JP is moved back to the WOLB spot in the 3-4, he'll be as effective as some of his Pittsburgh years, however, that still leaves the spot opposite him to be filled (Chris Long/Vernon Gholston being two options) as I don't see JT being able to play the strongside. I think a lot of what happens with Porter will be based off whether or not JT is with us this coming season.

Exactly!!! Read my post 6, that'll tell you all you need to know... Freaking Capers had no idea

yes i feel he is overpaid. I think he got 1 or 2 more decent years but for that price heck no

Joey Porter played much better the 2nd half of the seaon, and he always played well in big games. Most importantly, he NEVER gave up. Maybe we did pay him too much, but can you really put a price on a player who wouldn't give up on a 1-15 season? I'm happy to have Joey Porter on board.

Damn that's a little harsh but i mean it's not like he's lost his ability to play the game. I think he had better talent around him to begin with which helps alot when it comes to making plays. He was hurt pretty much the majority of last year so i would say that it would be unfair to judge him. I think we overpayed for him but that dosen't mean he can't still make plays.
