Hello, just thought I'd stop by and see what you guys thought of Joey. I was REALLY excited when I saw he was getting to play again. From the looks of your comments, your threads read about the same as they always did in Detroit...

The thing about Joey is that he's an easy guy to blame, because he's not a game changer. He's also an easy guy to root for though because for the most part he's quite solid.

Rather than tell you things about him you probably allready know, I'm going to be a Harrington appologist and give you reasons you should really give this guy a chance:

First of all the poor guy got drafted by the Lions. My god do we suck. We have been embarressed countless times, on countless occations. Whenever you think the Lions can't get any worse, can't embarress you any further... they inevitably do. They are a black sore on the NFL and I have been tortured for decades by them - I did get to watch Barry though, so it's a wash. Joey had the most hyped up receivers you could ever believe. These guys were so hyped up they were too busy looking in the mirror to practice. Lazy, egotystical, drug using, sloths. Joey threw so many TD's that were dropped, or just passed through receivers hands I still feel ill thinking about it. Our O-line has been in shambles for a decade. Have you ever seen a blitzer run up the center of the O-line untouched? Well in Ford Field it happens all the time. The team is poorly run and poorly managed. 1 playoff win in 50 years. That is what it means to play for Detroit.

He'd still be playing for us now if he hadn't wanted to leave. He wanted to leave because the lockerroom had turned against him. His problem wasn't that he was a problem, his problem was that he wasn't a solution - so the coaching staff, the fans, and the players turned on him... but at the end of the day he was a good solid QB and he was asked to stay. Joey didn't want any more of it though and I don't blame him.

He's great at throwing line drive passes for short distances and whenever you see a soft lob its gonna be a catch. Long bombs are not his thing though and if the O-line can't protect him a little he'll try to force a pass before he's sacked and a couple INT's will result. Just surround him with 2 or 3 solid WR's, they don't have to be flashy, they just have to be able to catch the ball consistently. In Detroit we've never learned to run the ball since Barry left. In fact we don't even try anymore. Check out Kevin Jones, this season Lions have fewest rushing attempts/game in the NFL. Teams we played just waited for Joey to throw, it really was an uphill battle for him. So run the ball decently and catch the easy passes. That's when he's at his best, when everyone else is doing their job.

So there you have it. He's no Michael Vick but he's solid and he can win games with a well rounded team. At the very worst he's got to be one of the very best Backup QB's in the league.

Any questions? I'll try to be objective.

By the way. Almost every fan in Detroit wants to see Joey play on Thanksgiving and light it up against the Lions. We should have a great FIRE MILLEN, SELL THE TEAM protest going and everything. Turkey day should be a circus, but quite entertaining for all.

Welcome, nice first post. :dolphins:

You might take a moment to checkout some other threads here by your fellow Lions trolls, er, fans ... BigGuy1381 and Billy Bean for instance. These guys ONLY post here to bash Joey Harrington. Bean has been doing it ever since Joey got here, probably can't bear to watch Jon Kitna fumble another Lions game away I suppose.

I think Kitna is an adequate QB but it's pretty plain that Mike Martz wanted to have Harrington as his "disciple" there and was disappointed when JH opted out for greener pastures, er, a sunny beach and cheerleaders - in South Florida.

Clearly - there is STILL a debate over Joey raging away in Motown!

Yes welcome and I did like what I saw with Joey. In the right place, atmosphere and conditions he can shine! I do see Miami being that place for him and not Culpepper

Not bashing Joey. Bashing your shrine to him, DoggPhin.

You're every bit the troll that I am, only in reverse.

Thanks. Mike Martz is a god as far as Im concerned. When someone has talent, they shine in Detroit like the North star. We don't deserve him, he's really gotten our Offense producing.

ugh... please don't bring up cheerleaders. Can you believe they built Ford Field dimentionaly NOT TO FIT CHEERLEADERS. They did it on purpose to promote a family atmosphere:fire: I got a peek at your cheerleaders on your home site:wink: wow. wow. wow.

LOL.

"Well rounded" means "everyone carrys his weight for him".

Same as 2001 Ducks. The guy had 3 receivers who had enough talent to make NFL teams. He had 2 RBs who both got 1000 yds that season, who were both also good enough to make NFL rosters.

And he played against bad defenses in the Pac 10.

He was nothing but a poster boy that the alumni association really, really wanted to get the Heisman for. Perfect image, not so perfect play.

Good play, mind you, but who wouldn't with that cast. AJ Feeley and Akili Smith also looked pretty good in college...

Actualy what I meant by "well rounded" was just anything more stable then what the Lions annualy display.

Thanks for the write-up, a lot of us would like to believe that he didn't really have the surrounding cast to do well in Detroit. I'm not ready to annoint him a savior, yesterday he showed what he is- a talented QB but not one who can elevate us on his own just yet- but I'm willing to give him a chance.

He's not well rounded in any sense of the word.

His feet are slow (no rushing TDs and very few rushing 1st downs).

He can't throw deep, at all.

He can't lead receivers and his placement is terrible.

He locks on to receivers, getting them hit far more often than necessary and gets a lot of passes batted down as a result.

He doesn't even hand the ball off well. I have yet to see a decent play fake.

you know if he was really as bad as you are desperatly trying to make everyone believe how could he be in his 5th year as an NFL QB?

That seems accurate from what I've seen.......including preseason.

Because he was the 3rd overall pick......
