Hello, just thought I'd stop by and see what you guys thought of Joey. I was REALLY excited when I saw he was getting to play again. From the looks of your comments, your threads read about the same as they always did in Detroit...
The thing about Joey is that he's an easy guy to blame, because he's not a game changer. He's also an easy guy to root for though because for the most part he's quite solid.
Rather than tell you things about him you probably allready know, I'm going to be a Harrington appologist and give you reasons you should really give this guy a chance:
First of all the poor guy got drafted by the Lions. My god do we suck. We have been embarressed countless times, on countless occations. Whenever you think the Lions can't get any worse, can't embarress you any further... they inevitably do. They are a black sore on the NFL and I have been tortured for decades by them - I did get to watch Barry though, so it's a wash. Joey had the most hyped up receivers you could ever believe. These guys were so hyped up they were too busy looking in the mirror to practice. Lazy, egotystical, drug using, sloths. Joey threw so many TD's that were dropped, or just passed through receivers hands I still feel ill thinking about it. Our O-line has been in shambles for a decade. Have you ever seen a blitzer run up the center of the O-line untouched? Well in Ford Field it happens all the time. The team is poorly run and poorly managed. 1 playoff win in 50 years. That is what it means to play for Detroit.
He'd still be playing for us now if he hadn't wanted to leave. He wanted to leave because the lockerroom had turned against him. His problem wasn't that he was a problem, his problem was that he wasn't a solution - so the coaching staff, the fans, and the players turned on him... but at the end of the day he was a good solid QB and he was asked to stay. Joey didn't want any more of it though and I don't blame him.
He's great at throwing line drive passes for short distances and whenever you see a soft lob its gonna be a catch. Long bombs are not his thing though and if the O-line can't protect him a little he'll try to force a pass before he's sacked and a couple INT's will result. Just surround him with 2 or 3 solid WR's, they don't have to be flashy, they just have to be able to catch the ball consistently. In Detroit we've never learned to run the ball since Barry left. In fact we don't even try anymore. Check out Kevin Jones, this season Lions have fewest rushing attempts/game in the NFL. Teams we played just waited for Joey to throw, it really was an uphill battle for him. So run the ball decently and catch the easy passes. That's when he's at his best, when everyone else is doing their job.
So there you have it. He's no Michael Vick but he's solid and he can win games with a well rounded team. At the very worst he's got to be one of the very best Backup QB's in the league.
Any questions? I'll try to be objective.
