How has John Beck's development been thus far? Where is he compared to where the coaches expected him to be at this point?

I have heard some say that Beck is well ahead of schedule but I was wondering if anyone had heard something of that nature from anyone connected to the team. Also, any thoughts from those that might have attended some of the mini-camp would be appreciated.

I'm excited to see what Beck is able to do in the NFL. I followed him closely through his collegiate career.

I haven't heard much of anything about him. Usually when you don't hear anything, it is a good sign. He is probably right where the coaches want him to be.

Micheal Silver (Sports Illustrated) made a big deal about Beck not performing well during the minicamp before last, but since then all that's been heard is good news. Subtle, to be sure, but positive.

just stuff like him looking off the defense and rifling 25 yard bullet touchdown passes to derek hagan. i saw him, he's definitely a rookie out there, but i'm optimistic.

Admit it now folks..we will all be pumped as all hell for the 3rd quarter in preseason...where the DBs are guys they call in from the stands, Beck will dominate, we will then annoint him as the next stud QB at miami.

quite interesting that we have not had any reports on Beck's performance, but we HAVE heard how Brady Quinn is struggling!!!

In terms of Improvement.. a lot! But it's offset by the fact that he had a TON of work to start with...

He stopped fumbling snaps, he has grown familiar with the playbook, and his timing with the receivers is getting better. He has made some REALLY nice throws. BUT he also has thrown a lot of picks..many of them due to mis-communications between him and the receivers. If the season started today he'd still be the third QB... Patience all. Cam Ram will most likely pull a Rivers/Palmer and sit him the entire year.

i wouldnt be surprised to see cleo beat out mr.beck for the 2nd spot...people forget that cleo has got some skills, dont be so surprised to see as our # 2 in the '07 season

I expect Cleo to be #2 by design. I believe the idea is to have Beck#3 and sit all year and learn. Cleo is competent and Cam likes him, no need to rush Beck whatsoever.

Agreed! My expectations all along have had Beck as our number 3 QB this year, then depending on how well Trent Green does (and if he can stay healthy) Beck will be our number 2 guy in 2008 and take the starting reigns in 2009. However, if Green falters or is pedestrian and Beck looks good then he will be the starter in 2008.

I would be surprised if Cleo were NOT the 2nd stringer. Beck has a year's worth of learning and doing in practice before he will be in any kind of shape to start for this team. That's not a dig on him, I can't wait to see him play as a pro. But it does not come easy, and does not come quickly.

Like Cam says, we have to see the player grow into the role.

He's a rookie. His development should be tracked over the course of his first year into his second, not how he looked throwing in his underwear.:tantrum:

I expect him to clean up his fundies as #3 man for a little bit. But if Green goes out 6 or 7 games into the season, I'll bet they start him.

that's how i felt too...i went to all three mini camps, so i have the right to say something lol. watching him next to Green, you can definitely tell who is the rookie and who is the pro, but he has a nice powerful throw and very direct (you can tell where he's throwing), and he was a TOTAL improvement in Junes mini camp from Mays mini camp. I was not a happy camper watching him in May. I think with a little bit of mentoring from Green, he could be a good QB. Definitely a "worth it" choice from the draft.
