Is anyone else worried about the fact that in a couple of weeks, John Beck will be 26? And he probably wont start this year, meaning that in his first start, he could already be 27 years old! Am I the only one that sees this as a major downside. And another thing, I was reading a scouting report on him on scouts.inc and the report said that he is going to be a backup at best, and the report even said there is a possibility that he could only be a thrid string QB! Thoughts?

TURN OFF THE PANIC MODE. He's gonna be fine. He may even show you that he's got a head on his shoulders. :cooldude:

No.
Beck was also evaluated above Quinn by many other scouts and has the skills to play very well at this level. 26! OMG, he's ancient. ;}
If he had spent three years getting blasted by defensive ends it might have a negative impact, since he didn't ... not an issue.

Scouts Inc. (I'll bet) thought that Rick Mire was a franchise QB, so who cares??
I'll throw out another QB who started late Roger "the dodger" Staubach, he was a backup too, for about 1/2 a season.

Quality QBs are lasting late into their 30s, if beck starts at 27, and retireds at 37, that will mean he will have given us 10 years, you have a problem with having a QB 10 years that you can count on?

Miami could have taken Brady, but this staff saw way more in Beck then in Quinn, and it seems some of the most knowledgeable out there agree that of all the QBs coming out this year, Beck has the best chance at reaching Elite status. I am far from worried.

Trent Green is 37 talking about playing 3-4 more years. Our hope is it is 1-2 so Beck can take over but it just shows how long these guys are able to hang around nowadays.

Staubach is a great example. He had to serve his military requirement before he could play in the NFL but he still played long enough to be in the Hall of Fame

NO!!!

And this is why.

Age is just a number.

Becks age just moves the bell curve on a QB's likely career.

Note: Trent Green didn't even play any significiant snaps until he was 28-29?

Beck

NO! & Welcome.

Don't worry about a thing. A gamer is still a gamer regardless of age. (see: Lebron James, Roger Clemens, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, etc.)

For some odd reason Scouts Inc. is overly bias against both BYU products and BYU prospects so I take EVERYTHING they say with a grain of salt. There have even been instances where a BYU recruit will have five stars from scouts inc. and be recruited by all of the big schools like USC, Florida, Texas, Tennesee, Michigan, etc., but once they committ to BYU they magically only have two stars, as if their talent suddenly diminished.

My suggestion, read a few more scouting reports from other sources and you will likely feel at ease about Beck's future potential.
