As we all know John Beck was told to bulk up and a special trainer has been assigned to him. According to the miamidolphins.com roster he weighs 216 which is what he was last year, i think. I don't know if he will gain much weight but he will definitely gain more arm strength/muscle. I think he has a really good shot at being the starter in week one. I think Beck is going to make tremendous strides and he started to look better at the end of the season. If we revamp the line (which we have done a good job so far) and actually give him a chance to find a WR, he will look a heck of a lot better than last year. Going into the 2007 draft, Beck was thought of as the most accurate QB who had a strong arm to go with it. If he has more time he will be able to hit the open WR more often. Ginn, Wilford and any other WR will also benifit for a revamped o-line. I hear a lot of people on here say that he doesnt throw a good spiral and the ball wabbles around. His spirals will look a lot tighter if he wasn't rushed to throw the ball and actually had time to throw it. I am a big believer in having a great offensive line because if your QB has all day to throw the ball, your QB will look even better (look at Tom Brady, all year had time: 18-0, Super Bowl: no time and lost and looked not very good). Plus if you have a kick *** offensive line (for example the vikings) look at what your running game could look like. Not to take anything away from Adrian Peterson but he does have the best Offensive line in the league. (thats one reason i still think LT is better than AP, but that will be saved for another discussion. LOL)

Dont give up on Beck yet, more every QB's struggle there first season starting and look at the situation he was put in last year.

Looking at all the interviews that I have seen of Beck, makes me think that he is really, really trying to better himself. He looks like he is working hard and trying to bulk up, and you know he is practicing every chance he has to improve his game. Please get this guy a good offensive line so we can see what he really can do with the ball in his hand.

Right now our Offensive Line looks like this:

LT: ?? (Hopefully a draftee; maybe Jake Long or Carl Nicks)
LG: ?? (Maybe Mormino)
C: Samson Satele
RG: Justin Smiley (FA)
RT: Vernon Carey

From our Center to the Right Side our O-line looks awesome right now.

You say the line looks pretty good on the right side, when essentially the line is the same as last year as it stands right now with the only two minor changes being Smiley instead of Hadnot and you have Carey on the right side as opposed to the left.

I think our OL was adequate last year. In fact there were alot of articles praising them after the first 6 or 7 games of the season. I know alot of fans on here were too, especially after Brown went on that short reign of terror where he put up 600+ yards of offense in 3 games. The line was fine. Beck was bad.

I didnt say the line was good or great btw. Just adequate. You guys make it out (when speaking of Beck only conviniently) to be the worst in the history of the league. In other threads you will talk about how good Satele and Carey are though. Alot of you sweated Hadnot too. Its only when youre talking about Beck that it was horrible.

And it isnt Beck's OL btw. Its the Miami Dolphins OL. The whole team dosent revolve around Beck ya know. Maybe we should just change our team name to the Miami Beck's.

Lemon and Beck both had to deal with regressed line play. It's not just Beck.

On sportscenter yesterday they said, as more time goes by they are hearing good things about how Beck is percieved by our organization. They also said he has thrown over 3,500 balls this off season already.

The line played noticeably worse when Beck was in...now, that could be simply a result of the fact that when Beck got in the game...WE HAD NO RUNNING GAME!!! WV, you may recall, Brown went down long before Beck got his first chance. Our line was awful when Beck played.

I think the line played pretty good in the beginning, but a little after brown went down, they started to lose their edge/consistensy. I think when brown was having a great year that was motivating them to play better, then he was gone and they started sucking a little bit. Not to mention we were winless and some players werent playing with intensity knowing the season was already over for us. I think with that being said lemon just handled the pressure better due to his experience. The Jets/Bills game they smelled blood and brought the house to blitz beck which almost always works on a rookie who is not used to the speed of the game.

The lack of a running game and loss after loss mounted until they honestly couldn't be bothered to show up for games anymore. I'm amazed that the one game we won came in the latter half of the year, after witnessing the lines fall apart.

Our line at the beginning of the season was doing a good job on run blocking, but the pass blocking was suspect the entire year. after Ronnie went down this problem was magnified because our opponents new we had no running back and they exploited our weakness in pass protection. It didn't matter who our QB was, we were never good at protecting them.

WVdolphan, who do you like better, the Miami Dolphins or Matt Ryan?

=)
(just playing, as I said b4, your consistency and passion for wanting us to draft Ryan is admirable)

And anyone who knows me around here knows for sure that I form my own opinions and think for myself. Im a grown man who has been watching football for 25 years. Ive seen every snap of every phins game since the year Directv started the Sunday ticket package back in the early 90's. Youre barking up the wrong tree with that insult/attempt at making a point.

Ive watched enough football to form my own opinions about what styles and skill sets I think go well with being able to play QB at the NFL level. I personally feel Ryan has em all and many of them to a high degree. I also feel he has the leadership qualities that are so valuable at the highest level. I dont need any reporters to tell me any of that. I saw it for myself.

The Miami Dolphins obviously. I do have a very high opinion of Matt Ryans skills and how they will translate to the NFL game....OBVIOUSLY. So for that reason and the fact that we hold the #1 pick in the draft, and therefore have our choice of any of the players available in this draft, I would like us to select Matt Ryan....OBVIOUSLY.

If we pass on Ryan, I will remain a Miami Dolphins fan first and foremost, of course. But, I would obviously check out Ryan on the ticket from time to time when he isnt playing at the same time we are and hope he has success. If he dosent though it really wouldnt bother me if he isnt a phin. As long as we are successful I really dont care what anyone else does. Well I always hold out hope that the Pats, Jets, Bills, Cowboys, Steelers, and Raiders all have terrible seasons

The line was not the same when Beck was in at the end of the season, it really started to beak down. It started off great, but once Brown got hurt it started to go downhill. I saw all the games and you can see it happen.

You know I'm not a Ryan guy, but I'm not against drafting a QB, but the line was poor when Beck was in the game as it was with lemon towards the end.

Dont be so sure to move Carey to the right side next year. Even if we draft Long, I expect the draftee to protect the right side and move to left the following year.

As for Becks weight, in those mormons eat a lot of potatoes. Haha

Beck will be fine, all he needs is a chance!!!!!

some people on this board are always gonna hate Beck for some reason....if we don't score is his fault and if we do is thanks to the other players....I think we can win with Beck and just wish people would stop wishing him to fail just so that they can say that THEY were right.....we should all hope that Beck turns out to be a great QB for us....but on this board is means more to some posters to be right so they can feel better about themselfs......I'm rooting for Beck.

Ozzy rules!!
