Clayton says Ricky will only be a back up this year and that it was poor quarterbacking that hurt us last year.

Don't think so John.:yell: I'm no Fiedler fan but how about the horrible play of our Oline last year. We should be vastly improved with Hudson Houck's help. Give AJ and Gus time and I think they can at least do an adequate job. How about our recieving corps this year and the addition of Ronnie ( best hands in the draft)?

Ricky as a backup at best? John, I doubt that this much time and energy has been spent by all the parties involved to see Ricky be a bench warmer.:shakeno:

I agree, I think John Clayton needs to STFU on this one.

Hate to break it to you, but at this point Ricky is a back-up after you guys.

Considering you just used a #2 overall pick on a RB, I'd say so.

I wouldn't say "backup" so much as "change of pace."

Change of pace backs are backups, no?

You mean the runningback that's probably not going to be in camp on time? The Fins used two first rounders on Ricky so, if Ricky returns to his old form, both he and Ronnie Brown will see a lot of playing time.

So wait....Steve McNair was a starter his first season? Daunte Culpepper was a starter his first season? Carson palmer started his first season? Steven Jackson started last year? Chris Perry started last year?

So you're expecting a guy who walked out on your team last year, has to serve a 4-game suspension, add on top of that his social disorder or whatever ...not to mention no one knows how he's doing physically (could be wrong on that) and you think Ricky is going to be his old self? This isn't the same player that carried the Dolphins two years ago.

Ronnie Brown was drafted for a reason, and that's to be the premiere back. You don't draft a guy #2 overall to sit him on the bench, unless your the Detroit Pistons.

Who ever is running the best will be taking the bulk of the carries. If Williams is running all over the feild against any one team he will continue to get the carries for that game.Same goes for Brown or even Gordon (if he is still with us), it's all pretty simple.

I'd say it's fair that he said our problem was poor quarterbacking last year.

The only thing he doesn't mention is that it was the result of poor OL and RB play. Not to mention the truely mind tingling complexity of the gameplan Ferrster put together last year.

Agreed.

But Ricky wasn't brought back to be the starter. He'll probably be making close to the minimum and Brown will get a huge contract. Do you sit that much wasted money on the bench to let a quitter on the field?

Ricky proved to be the best RB in 2002 and top 5 in 2003.
It's in the best interest of the team to showcase RW for trade bait.
Maybe just the Chargers we may end up with a dilema do we trade RB or RW I like our options.

I'd say whoever gets the title of starter will be honorary only. I'd expect the split to be pretty damn close to 50/50, and as mentioned if a back gets hot... they'll likely get the most carries that game.

Ricky has a provenn track record on the field RB doesn't

I don't think it's about the money as much as it has to do with winning.
