John Clayton short take on O-line

He gets paid for the assessment. It takes some in depth film work to figure the right side of the line stinks.

It is what it is right now..I hope the O line will gel and that will improve things.. IMO Carey has been worse than Columbo...Can we expect more runs to the left side when Jake is back? I think so.

Yeah, honestly, the surprising thing is that Carey has regressed. It was like his play fell off a goddamn cliff. Columbo has been a slow and steady decline, which is why them signing him from Dallas was so surprising (or disturbing, take your pick) but Carey was playing at a high level the past 3 years. Now he is so bad I expect him to be out of the league in 2 years once his reputation wears off.

But they probably think brian waters is a great pickup cus of his past, but if I were Nolan and I see Waters in there, I put the heat right up his ars.

never liked Vernon Carey that much. He got paid and now it seems he doesn't care.

He did get paid, but actually they restructured his contact and cut his salary this pre-season. Agree with you on the playing like he doesn't care though.

Yeah the problem with Carey was at the time of the contract extension in 08 he was the only available option to a team in dire need at so many other positions it wasn't funny. Now he is overpaid and under skilled even after the contract re-work this off season.

The failure in this case was finding an upgrade to his declining play, the front office got it right in 08 by signing him but missing horribly by not finding someone to replace or push him out of the lineup.

So we can all agree we need to find 3 Oline in next years draft right? And if Henne goes top ten in explosive offense, then Qb not neccesarily needed? especially if Moore continues to thrive as well? lol

yeah right. wolf pack.

Carey's play was visibly declining last year as well. I still remember shaking my head as Israel Idonije beat him off the edge. He seems completely outmatched this year. I no longer feel bad for him that he had to take a pay cut.

If the line is that bad there is no way Henne is in the top 10. This line has to get better or you will see incredible changes on the Fins.

The way I see it they will get better after a few games:

1.) Carey moved to new position
2.) Colombo new to the team
3.) Rookie center
4.) Long missed offseason practices/workouts

They will have to counter the pass rush by using quick 3 and 5 step drops, slants, screens, etc.

Well, not really.

Have loved Verne since the day we drafted him.
Admired that he was really out of place at LT, but he worked his *** of to make it.
In comes Long, and he just takes it in stride and goes to RT. No bs, no cancer no nothing, just does his job.

Then comes last year.... From about week 3 on, he was absolutely TERRIBLE. I also noticed he seemed to have picked up a serious case of Dickeydoo disease last year, and unfortunately, it hasnt gone away. He needs to spend every minute he can on a treadmill to get rid of it, or DE and DT's are going to continue to go around him untouched.

I live in the Dallas area, and am subjected to everything Cowpie. It sucks, but is what it is.
Columbo was fairly decent 2 years ago, he really was.
Last year, he was quite likely top 5 WORST starting RT's in the league. When he wasnt being man-raped or falling down on his own, he was committing penalties.

EDIT: A thanks to anybody that knows what Dickeydoo disease is.....
