John Gibbons receives a bloody nose after argument

I dont know what was said on the mound, but how can a pitcher cry after giving up 7 runs? I mean cmon now. The manager does need to go, he can't have the respect of his team if they won't even give up the ball after giving up 7 runs. I mean could you imagine someone doing that to Joe Torre or LaRussa or Leland?

Look at it from lilly's point of view.

He was pissed he was blowing the big lead at home. He was mad and wanted to make up for it and his emotions got the best of him. I love lilly, he's inconsistant but I hope he sticks around as the number 4 or 5 pitcher next year.

A pithcer in the 4/5 spot who pitches .500 is exactly what you need,

Next year with,

1. Halladay
2. Burnett
3. Chacin
4. Lilly
5 (Free Agent)

This team could finally contend in the hardest division in baseball.

I hope this blows over it looks like they've allready patched things up.

The biggest problem the Jays will have is signing Vernon Wells to a long term deal as rumour has it he wants to go back to Texas.

You know, Hillenbrand is no saint, but John Gibbons is fast becoming a problem. A manager can not be getting into fights with his players. It's unprofessional and awful for clubhouse chemistry. Look at what the spat with Hillenbrand did to the team. They didn't improve after he left. Gibby has to watch it.

Dug this up about the incident

Canadian Press photographer Aaron Harris, one of a handful of photographers to witness the incident, said Gibbons, five-foot-11 and 195 pounds, came down the steps and went right at Lilly, six-foot-one and 190 pounds. The two began wrestling, clutching at each other's shirts before security team trainer George Poulis and several Blue Jays jumped in to break it up as a bewildered crowd of 28,280 looked on.

Personally as a lifelong Jays fan, i have no qualms with this or the Shane Hillenbrand incident - Lilly just gave up 7 runs after blowing an 8-0 lead and then like a baby refused to give the ball over after the manager approached the mound - Good for John Gibbons - He's the captain and personally, i'm glad this guy has fight in him, especially with a limited payroll, this team needs it - Lilly can shape up or ship out...

Gibbons is going to get canned. I'm sorry but as a manager you can never attack one of your players. It shows absolutely no self control which a manager must have. Between this and the Hillendbrand incident (2 times he tried fighting players in less than a month) he's gotta go and go as soon as possible.

I think it was Rob Dibble and Lou Pinela that had that fight in the lockeroom a long time ago, that film footage was hiliarous. Pinela was a madman going after Dibble like that.

He's as good as gone IMO. What owner would keep a Manager after 2 incidents of this type?

And Lou Piniella was and is a much more established MLB manager than John Gibbons. He could get away with more because he had proven he could win. Gibbons hasn't proven a thing.

I was saying that I felt Gibbons was a problem back when the Hillenbrand incident happened, and felt like I was whistling in the dark. Guess not. The Jays just can't find any luck with managers. Buck Martinez was inept. Tim Johnson made up fake Vietnam war stories. Gibbons is apparently a belligerent jerk.

:sidelol: Man I had forgot those fake Vietnam stories, that was some funny ****.:sidelol:

I don't think the players on the Blue Jays respect Gibbons. Ozzie Guillens calls out White Sox all the time and verbally attacked John Garland and Tracy in front of cameras and all baseball fans saw it. Still that team loves Ozzie. Gibbons trys to take a guy out who doesn't have "it" one night and an altercation happens. It doesn't matter if Gibbons is the best strategist in baseball if a manager/coach loses his team they're done.
