This guy get's beat a lot around the corner even by lesser competition. I watched a smaller Oregon player just run him over. He looks like a 6"6 guard moves well on run plays but in pass pro gets beat a lot....that's a concern with powerful guy like Mario Williams in our division.

That surprises me, because he reportedly has great feet and is supposed to be good at mirroring rushers.

everyone gets beat, even jake gets beat. nobody can make a block 100% of the time

er... the guy has got great feet, very mobile, great for pass protection.

That's news to me. Admittedly, I didn't watch much Stanford football, but why was this guy considered the 3rd best LT prospect if he's so awful? Why was he considered a mid to late 1st rd pick? Was it because he was so bad?
I wonder what the media response would have been had the Pats drafted him or any other player for that matter.

Like sinphin said, you can't go your whole career blocking every single player. Sometimes you get beat and for the such a big guy, he has tremendous speed and agility.

Here's a video of 3 games of his.

Also, you can see our newly acquired LB's Kaddu and Lyons do some work against a great Oline

Martin is great in pass protection. Luck rarely got sacked.

Here's a thought... keep him on the left but move him inside to LG, move Incog over to RG and have Murtha at RT.

Either way... it's a win win, but I do think, watching his footwork, he sets well in pass pro. Only thing that would concern me a little, would be his power step to the inside... it's a little weak and he plays high with little hope rotation. But something that can be coached.

Like the pick. Will be a shame if Murtha looses out at RT, if he does, will be interesting to see if he is a solution inside at Guard.

I like how he rarely gets blown up. Granted it does happen but his base seems solid and he can get to next level. I don't see how he can't move to right tackle and be extremely successful there. Great pick with awesome value.

I am more concerned with his strength. Only 20 reps at the combine is pathetic...

isnt he going to be on the right side of the line? so against most of the elite pass rushers he'll probably have help from a TE or whatever..

i want to see him practice and play in the preseason before saying anything

Luck was only sacked 11 times all season and out of that 3 came versus Oregon
So I have to say his protection was outstanding and Martin was a huge part of this.
