Jonathan Martin Alleges Player Misconduct, Dolphins ask for NFL Review

I will say that the financial hazing of the rookies is obscene. If one good thing comes out if this, it would be to put in place guidelines or rules in place. Buying doughnuts is one thing but making the rookies fund a $30 k meal, even if split, goes too far. Maybe the league can allow something like a limit of $1,000 per player cumulatively.

A veteran like Odrick or Incognito will be multi-millionaire. A rookie like Don Jones will make a burst of money in the six figures but then likely will end up with his life's work wondering where the stereotype of his NFL money went. That's not reasonable.

Agreed on that...

I guess there is an element of "paying it forward", since the vets once had to do the same thing in the past, but some of these guys may never get another big payday to compensate for the lost income.

whether you guys like it or not....if it's proven that the dolphins lockerroom was a hostikle work environment for one or some players there will be big consequences. harassment is not tolerated anywehre else....idk why you think it shoudl be ok in the nfl

What consequences?

The worm is looking for a settlement. This is not exactly a secret what his move is all about.

It's the NFL, it's a mans game. He knew the rules before he was drafted. Short of one of his team mates physically assaulting him away from the facility he's out of luck.

What's he going to say? They called me bad names! This is such a joke. It's just the PC culture running wild.

How does a 350 pound lineman get his feelings hurt? What? Seems like there isn't any leadership, but bullies who are picking on a rookie.
They say the jets are a circus:confused:
Incognito is the dirtiest player in the NFL next to suh. ...

If he NEVER reported harassment to his employer AND the team can show he was involved in hazing...he is ****ed.

According to Albert Breer, Martin did in fact report his issues to Philbin in the Spring.

Multiple Miami Dolphins sources said Sunday that the offensive lineman approached coach Joe Philbin to discuss his issues during organized team activities in the spring. One team source said Martin's desire to even continue playing football had been questioned, but the team believed the situation was quelled after it was addressed at that time. Another source who has spoken to Martin said the second-year pro addressed his issues with the work environment in Miami at the meeting with Philbin, though a team source contended the Dolphins weren't aware of them until last week.

If Martin leaves the NFL and goes to work somewhere, he will be known as a whistleblower. No one will want his note taking sel working for them.

As far as Joe inviting an NFL Review, it seems the organization did the right things, and is not afraid to bare all to the league.

I wonder how Stephen Ross is taking this? He may have been blindsided by all of this. I doubt the details of whatever happened, or even the conversation Philbin had with Martin during OTAs as reported by Albert Breer, ever bubbled up to him.

What is Martin's end game? How he is handling this is what is wrong with America.

IMO, if he can prove that Incognito's behavior was beyond normal hazing and locker room behavior, then he has a chance to restart his career somewhere else. That's the only out for him.

I'm not into meathead culture, but if I were on a football team or on a police force, or in the military, I would expect to face an element of that. Are drill sergeants still allowed to completely degrade and break down recruits? Because isn't that where this hazing/pranks thing comes from? A way to "toughen up" recruits (rookies) so they can endure the real tough **** on the battlefield?

I'm just confused how a guy gets to the NFL level and is suddenly surprised by the agro/meathead culture that persists in the locker room.

I agree. I think that obviously everything has its limits as far as how far "hazing" should go, but a certain level of "boys being boys" has to be expected in a locker room situation.
I'm a stock broker, my office is definitely a boy's club with a lot of chest beating and dick waving, so I experience the joking and hazing in what would be considered inappropriate fashion by normal people. I definitely both take it and dish it out, and its something that does get annoying sometimes, but I'm not about to sue anybody, because I like to be able to say and do ridiculous **** as well sometimes lol.
I obviously want to know the details here, so I will reserve judgement, but I have a feeling nothing was done to Jonathan Martin that would really shock anyone.

mother of god, what the hell has incognito started? things were just looking up for us, we are right in the hunt for a wildcard birth n now this, the focus from the dolphins has been taken from football to now this saga. Another great signing by Ireland. You knew the guy was trouble but thought you could change him. Since when do the dolphins have bill belicheck to do things like that ? we dont have 1, thats the problem here. The patriots are smart n tough, instead of destroying 1 of there own, they destroy the opponent. Miami Dolphins IQ is the problem here, not the tough aspect.
