Jonathan Martin Alleges Player Misconduct, Dolphins ask for NFL Review

Got it.

At that point I'd say Richie and Martin need to be cut. Richie for being a scumbag and Martin for quitting on the team and storming out of the facility.

I don't like how Martin has handled this and I"m really done with Richie Incognito, so I wouldn't mind that scenario.

I think I've cracked it boys............ Martin was messing around with Lauren hence the reason he was trying to get Tanny killed out there and Incognito found out and was extorting cash out of him over it.

For Christ Sake this seems to be the type of Reality TV crap folks want these days. In the end, it all falls on Philbin's watch and the way this league is slanted against us, it is not going to end well for us as an organization.

I am so freaking sick of Jonathan Martin. What the hell did we draft with this kid? This is no way to handle this situation. I have yet to hear anything that is so bad that it couldn't have been handled in-house.

His representation is not advising him properly because they should understand how this will hamper his career, including possible blacklisting. Unless, that is, he is giving up on football and has an ulterior motive like coming out.

You bet that will be used against him.

I believe that he will ultimately retire... no disrespect to him but he can't handle being on the big boy stage....

Hmm, how do I say this without contributing to spreading a totally unsubstantiated rumor?

Let's say that Jon Martin really likes French automobiles. Okay? Like, he imported a Peugeot and he drives it when nobody's looking. Richie Incognito finds out about it, and starts blackmailing Jonathan Martin to keep it a secret. Something like that would be really, really bad.

Blackmail is actively and unambiguously illegal. Hardly a brave stance to take that you'd be angered by it. I assume you'd also be angry if Incognito raped Martin at knifepoint.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that it's illegal to threaten somebody if the other person believes the threat is credible. I think that's partly what Mort and Schefter's report earlier today was designed to do (by the people Mort and Schefter spoke to), to put out the idea that Martin was/is legitimately afraid of reprisals against him. Then all Martin has to do is play a voicemail from Incognito threatening to whoop his ass, testify that he took it seriously, and that can be enough to convict.

At least I think that's how it works. If someone more knowledgeable about these matters could clarify I'd appreciate it.

Still waiting on some pertinent facts..... Why don't we wait till more information is out before we paint Martin a villain.

don't think most are painting him out to be a villain...just that he can't handle the culture...his words...he needs to go for his own sanity, Rolando McClain retired because he couldn't deal, theres not shame in Martin doing the same.

I think what most are saying is because he caused a stink about it in the first place that he won't be welcomed in this or any other professional locker room

Just an example. I'm just saying that if Martin was asked to pay for a rookie dinner, and asked to pitch in with everyone else for the trip to Vegas, and was involved in / the victim of pranks like everyone else, then that sounds about the norm for everything I've ever heard about NFL locker rooms.

But if Richie was threatening him in text messages with serious physical violence or blackmailing him, and if Joe Philbin knew about it then that would cause me to absolutely support Martin here. And want Joe's head.

But I just have to go on what's come out so far, and what it sounds like is the usual run of the mill crap. If anything, tamer than stories I've read in 'insider' books and heard secondhand.

People do scummy things for money all the time. I have seen members of my family screw each other over for a few bucks. It happens to me all the time in business, guys trying ANYTHING just to get a few dollars up on my firm. People do bad things when money is involved, and just based on my personal experience and what I know of the facts, I think there is more here than Richie Incognito being a jerk.

Is there any official source stating that Incognito is indeed involved in all of this???

How is it cheating the Dolphins out of money when by law you have to provide a safe and non abusive work environment? If he sues and wins he proved they didn't provide that. How are the Dolphins the victim here? Oh wait I see he is supposed to sit there and take like a good indentured servant

I don't agree the Dolphins are there to provide the type of environment you are describing.

It's the NFL not IBM.

What law?

OSHA? Title VII? FMLA? Minimum Wage Law?

You can't just say, it's against the law, without there being a specific law which applies. It may not be fun to have mean co-workers, but who do you sue, your boss because your co-worker is mean? How is the owner responsible? The Dolphin FO didn't violate EEOC rules at all, they gave him a job without regard to his race or age, background, and didn't tell him to sleep, eat, or work any differently than any other player.

If Martin is looking to walk out of his contract, by saying it was impossible to fufill that contract because his coworkers impeaded his ability to do his job, then he would have to prove he brought the matter up to management, and that the matter was sufficiently serious enough for them to take action. And btw saying, "Incognito is making me pay for dinner" or "Clabo won't have lunch with me" or "Pouncey called me an lazy asshat" isn't enough.

So let's wait and see what exactly this is about before jumping to conclusions. My guess is, Martin's lawyers are fishing, to see what the NFL and Dolphins do, after reporting "misconduct."

Short of a team mate physically assaulting him away from the team facility I can't think of one scenario that would forgive Martins decision to walk away from his team.

Martin is trying to keep some of his pay check. Once he walked off, he knew he made a dumb ass move. Hopefully the dolphins can get themselves through this.

Incog is guilty if:

1) He threatened physical violence against Martin
2) He knows Martin is gay and he verbally assaulted him over a two year period
3) He extorted/stole money from Martin
4) He asked Martin to join the annual o-lineman circle jerk
5) He sexually assaulted Martin in the showers after the Saints game
....other than that, he doesn't have much of a case.

I'm not into meathead culture, but if I were on a football team or on a police force, or in the military, I would expect to face an element of that. Are drill sergeants still allowed to completely degrade and break down recruits? Because isn't that where this hazing/pranks thing comes from? A way to "toughen up" recruits (rookies) so they can endure the real tough **** on the battlefield?

I'm just confused how a guy gets to the NFL level and is suddenly surprised by the agro/meathead culture that persists in the locker room.
No, in today's military recruits have time out cards when they believe they are reaching a moment of boiling over. I'm not kidding.
