Jonathan Martin Alleges Player Misconduct, Dolphins ask for NFL Review

I don't agree the Dolphins are there to provide the type of environment you are describing.

It's the NFL not IBM.
Where it happens has nothing to do with it. He is a fellow human being who deserves respect. Harassment is harassment whether it takes place in office or in a locker room. Its against the law period its not acceptable behavior for anyone. A real organization like IBM know that which is why they're industry leader the fish rots from the head. Has being a grade A ******* made Icognito a better player by his bro code of picking on the weak? No he is run of the mil as they get I would go on to say Martin is way more valuable a player than he is. Bullying is carried out by the lowest of our society there is nothing noble in it. I would take a 100 Martins over any cowardly bully any day.

I agree, and also, let's assume this is really about getting out of a contract. For example, in the music industry, musicians are bound to contracts and want to get out for various reasons. In Hollywood, same thing, you have a contract to do a set of movies with a studio, and if you walk off the set, you'd better be able to prove there's a valid reason for not fufilling your contract. Martin made the first move, and seems to be saying because of player misconduct, he was impeaded somehow in doing his job. So, they go to court, and leave it up to the judge to see who owes for the remainder of the contract. His parents are lawyers and you can bet this is mostly about money.

Hmm, how do I say this without contributing to spreading a totally unsubstantiated rumor?

Let's say that Jon Martin really likes French automobiles. Okay? Like, he imported a Peugeot and he drives it when nobody's looking. Richie Incognito finds out about it, and starts blackmailing Jonathan Martin to keep it a secret. Something like that would be really, really bad.

On a highway, ruled by muscle cars, lets say, you were a late model Peugot engineered with impressive horsepower and a contemporary drivetrain. If you feel you can roll down the road with the best of the Camaros, Chargers and Mustangs whose job it is to lead the way for the Lexuses, Bimmers and Mercedes and you're proud of your unfamiliar French lineage, wouldn't you consider this to be a trailblazing opportunity to smash preconceptions by assuming a leadership role among the muscle cars, striving to do a good job protecting the premium cars cruising behind you rather than succumbing to the stereotype of what those high powered domestic autos might consider an effete French auto not capable of joining the pack to be?

Aw man. I hadn't considered a scenario like that.

I will play the game.... If something like that happened, it wouldn't reflect poorly on the fins unless they were told. If it was "I'm having trouble with cogs" it isn't specific enough for them to figure it out. Subtle innuendo in a meeting with philbin isn't enough to burn philbin in my book.

If they knew of emotional or financial blackmail, tear the whole football side of the org down and start over. They have security. They have HR. JMs parents are attorneys and surely would know that full disclosure would be step 1 to any workplace grievance.

If Martin leaves the NFL and goes to work somewhere, he will be known as a whistleblower. No one will want his note taking sel working for them.

As far as Joe inviting an NFL Review, it seems the organization did the right things, and is not afraid to bare all to the league.

His parents are Lawyers and money isn't an issue...i don't think he gives a **** at this point

It's the NFL these men say things to each other as compliments that would prob make you cry.

They do not live in the real world. They are paid to beat other extremely large men up for a living dozens of time a week.

They do not function as you or I do. That is my only point. The rules and accepted behavior you and I expect is not the same as these men expect.

Why would how much money his parents have, have anything to do with his bank account? Do you think he's going to move home and remodel the basement?

So next the Moral Control Police are going to want players to be fined and flag for talking smack during games, because its "stupid" and it may hurt someone feelings.

The previous brought up point that he is a "whistleblower" and won't be accepted anywhere for work

I wonder if there is evidence of "Bullying" on Hard Knocks? Doesn't the name "Hard Knocks" hint that training camp may be tough, and not for the weak?

Maybe Martin never got past the name "Big Weirdo." It may have hurt his feelings.

In today's world I'm not so sure. This dude left because his feelings were hurt and it looks like he genuinely felt he was wronged.

The PC culture is out of control.

Yeah, what sucks is that we're back to 'not being a nice place to play / not being that class of an organisation'...

Let's just say things are half-way from being a blow-over and being a tragedy... And Philbin gets canned. Next year, who'll want to coach this mess? Any FA's wanting to come here? Etc...

I don't know how Ross is taking... the image of his organisation is taking a big beating one way or another...

What a great thread. So many strong opinions about things we know nothing about. Assumptions about what has or has not happened, conspiracies about the "timing" of being moved to right tackle, and more assumptions about Martin's thoughts and motivations. Very entertaining, would read again.

don't think most are painting him out to be a villain...just that he can't handle the culture...his words...he needs to go for his own sanity, Rolando McClain retired because he couldn't deal, theres not shame in Martin doing the same.

I think what most are saying is because he caused a stink about it in the first place that he won't be welcomed in this or any other professional locker room

We don't know why he left yet. If he turned a sandpile into a mountain then fine, give it to him. There's an extreme level of bias on this board, whether people want to admit it or not, people are labeling him when they have no idea what the true story is.

Short of a team mate physically assaulting him away from the team facility I can't think of one scenario that would forgive Martins decision to walk away from his team.

It's possible he did blow this out of proportion, but we don't know so we should wait till we do. What would be understandable for him to walk away from is a matter of opinion.
