Jonnu Smith on QB1

This is what I had hoped for when he got on the weight watchers program:

“It shouldn't be surprising that Tagovailoa is able to make more plays on the move because the lost weight has clearly made him more mobile and able to escape from the pocket.”

Your QB has to make plays like that to win a title. Maybe not every game, but at some point it is absolutely necessary. Here’s to skinny Tua staying skinny.
Agreed. All you have to do is put on the tape and watch last years title game. The Niners were going to win that till Mahomes took over the game and broke the defense with his legs. I just.... Dont think Tue's body can hold up as well as Hahomes has. I so wish he was about 6 inches taller with a slightly larger frame.

Six inches taller would make Tua 6ft 7 inches tall. Don’t know many QBs who are that tall.

Throwing power comes from the hips, thighs, and buttocks. Height is not a factor.

This season is basically lost because Jack McDaniels brought this team into it unprepared and without any creative plays or an actual plan on offense. They started this season trying to throw deep a bunch. They got the QB hurt. They were just lost.

Seriously beginning to wonder if McDaniel is or was on drugs. Or something. What they did to start this season was rubbish.
You don’t consider the lack of a skilled backup QB relevant?

This season is definitely on McD for hiding a QB on the roster for three years who’s afraid to throw the football

It was definitely a mistake... But assuming that any other alternative would've fared much better isn't really realistic... Bottom line, backup QBs overall win around 1 out of 3 games, is what it is...

I’d like to think a backup who’s not afraid to pass the actual ball would’ve squeezed out a win or two with the speed guys on this offense

Speed guys probably aren't easier to hit to be honest.

Think of it this way... hunting season, ducks most probably wish they'd fly faster...

The thing that kills me about the backup QB play was that it was so far below a standard of even basic reasonability, that we had no chance. Even average backup play could’ve yielded a win or two with the surrounding cast.

The reason I want the height and weight isn't arm strength, its durability. You never saw Rothlesburger get picked up and body slammed the way Tua does. Your right, 6ft 7 is unusual, but 6ft 4 to 6ft 6 isnt. Most of those guys also just have a larger frame than Tue does though.

All good. I was just joshing with you. 👍

You have absolutely no evidence for this absolutely brain dead take.

The SB is the perfect example. Game was there multiple times for the 69ers and Purdy just couldn’t make a play. The drive that stalled down near the goal line where he was pressured and threw an errant ball is another good example. Mahomes likely slips away and completes it. Then as you say, Mahomes put the team on his back and won the game w his legs. I wish Tua was more durable too. Still, it’s really good to see him making the offscript plays - they are back breakers.

Aside from the name calling and baseless suggestions of alcoholism, he does have a point. It took not having Tua to bring about the realization that a more balanced playcalling scheme would be more effective when he returned.

It's almost as though they completely dismissed what happened last year, when teams started playing a 2-deep shell and daring them to run.
