he didnt hide it very well

I wouldn't bash him too much because what he says is probably close to being true. The money players are making now is a huge motivator even if a player loves football. Money will keep players playing longer than they might. The game is brutal on the their bodies and minds. These are realities. I don't question a player's love for the sport because that is what got them where they are. But at that level a player's love can be overtaken by rewards. Just an opinion.

I thought it was a pretty candid interview even if he wasted our time in Miami.

He is speaking the truth.

Well one would have to start wondering after several concussions whether it's worth it to continue.

Pro rugby players get paid a tenth of what football player get, they don't wear pads and they are on the field for all/most of the 80 for 35 games a year. So what's their reason for playing if they don't love it?

I don't buy this line. Just Cameron justifying his selling out on his team due to (very understandable) injury concerns. Don't love it? Worried about injuries? Then retire and stop cheating your team out of salary.

Even if I felt that way I am sure I wouldn't have said it. You come off more like a thief stealing a pay check.

I just had a son who is not even 2 months old and despite my love of football I am hoping he has no intentions of playing it but I would be a hypocrite if I told he can't play. I know if I was born with the ability to have continued to play after HS no one could've stopped me. Not everyone has that.

If I were Jordan Cameron I would've said thank you to the sport that ensured his financial stability for life and provided my kid with every advantage possible.

I know plenty of kids from my HS days who had more concussions than this guy.

Yeah rather he speak the truth than give us the same old company lines....nothing to lose at this point, tell it like it is.

Its traveling the country and the world, it is doing something that you are better at than 99%+ the entire population and getting paid a pretty darn good salary to boot (even 80k a year is good money)

A lot of these guys couldn't function properly without football, I don't think that means they "love" it and certainly understand falling out of love with it over time.

Surely there are players that wake up and breathe football because its the love of their life . . . But I think Cameron's stance is true for many players as well.

So most players don't love their job like most of the rest of the population. Gotcha.

I think its clear who loves football in the league. Its a handful of guys maybe 30-50 across the league.

I think a lot of it is all the pressure they've been under since little kids to perform at high levels and then when you have success the pressure is even higher

You could probably assume that for most guys college is their best time playing football and the NFL truly becomes a day job

I don't hate the guy. Lots of people don't like their jobs, and they go in and half-ass it every day. That's the American way!

But it would be nice to have that cap room back.
