One of the few depth chart changes made this offseason centers around who gets to start next to Ndamukong Suh.

During all of the Miami Dolphins practices the media has been allowed to watch this offseason, Jordan Phillips, the team's 2015 second-round pick, has lined up next to Suh on the majority of snaps. It appears the former Oklahoma standout has leapfrogged Earl Mitchell on the team's depth chart heading into next week's mandatory minicamp, which ends the team's offseason program.
Mitchell, who has started 16 games in his two seasons with the Dolphins, says the battle to determine who starts in 2016, has been heated.

Freak athlete. 1 year to figure it out. This is news we expect to hear but great nonetheless. Mitchell as a backup is fantastic. Mitchell as a starter is just ok.

About time, let's hope he actually is able to consistently plays like a starter, and not on and off.

Interesting news........Big Earl did not exactly play well last year so this should not be much of a surprise. Thrown in that Jordan was a pretty high pick and it's even less surprising. Glad to see the coaching staff make changes and not just let veterans have their positions handed to them as past coaches have done. Hopefully Jordan gets the job and our run D dramatically improves.

I think they said the depth chart is very fluid but I'm cheering for the kid...he's got all the measurables...he just needs to put it all together consistently.

The reason Jordan Phillips was selected in round 2(much to the surprise of many Dolphin fans)....was he was considered a first round talent.

This can be a very interesting line if Phillips has the lightbulb go on with his talent...next to Suh...with Mario Williams and Cameron Wake.

Now if we can dream....Dion Jordan gets reinstated and becomes an additional factor on passing downs.

Earl Mitchell is like 6'1 1/4" 300 pounds while Phillips is 6'5 1/2" 327. Phillips obviously has the size and length we need. Mitchell was mediocre at best.

Great news....Mitchell was a non-factor last year and got moved at will by other teams offensive lineman.

I think he should be released outright if he is not head and shoulders above any of our younger depth DT's.

About damn time. I expect Phillips to stay there. Hell, he should have started over him as a rookie and taken his lumps. Big Earl has given us very, very little in his time here. As big a fan as I am of the work Hickey did here, Earl Mitchell was a complete bust as a FA signing. Maybe the worst run D we've ever had and a lot of it had to do with Earl failing up front.

I think he was a big reason why the run defense was so bad last year. I do hope that the DT we stole from New England will beat Mitchell as well.

Phillips being able to play to his potential & Alonzo returning to pre-injury form will be the two biggest factors in how the defense improves.

It's great to hear Phillips is making the most of his opportunity.

Sounds more to me like he was inserted as a starter just to get more reps so he can get his gelatinous carcass in shape. He was deactivated last year because of questions regarding his work ethic/conditioning. (I just read that today). I highly doubt the "promotion" was from anything shown in non-padded OTA's.

On the good side of it, he has admitted he screwed up last year. Hopefully he has some motivation this year. Talent is great but means nothing if a player isn't driven.
