In 2011, Shipley had four receptions for 14 yards before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Week 2. Shipley was limited in drills during the offseason, but was cleared to participate at the start of camp and had one reception for four yards in two preseason games.

Following Thursday night's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer observed that Shipley's knee wrapped in ice and suggested the leg wasn't responding the way Shipley and the Bengals had hoped.

That injury basically shut his season down last year. It doesn't look like it's fully healed either.
