Josh McCown had 11 fumbles last year with an equally impressive 11 picks in 9 games last year.

John Beck had 3 picks and 7 fumbles in 5 games!

One thing we know for certain is both these qbs played for terrible teams.

It seems the perception around here is McCown is better suited to start due to experience which in a lot ways make since.

What has he done with that experience? The above stats tell you if you're looking for a care taker he isn't the guy!

I know the Raiders had a horrible team but those same Raiders came into our house and kicked our butts.

Aside from injuries I think in retrospect we can all say our biggest deficiency was coaching. Cam was not ready or probably incapable of being a head coach on this level.

Cam was pressured to start Beck by the media, fans, and injuries. So he made brash decision to start him late in the season despite not preparing him to do so. The week prior he was running the practice team simulating the other teams offenses and not ours.

I don't think anyone here will say he played well because he clearly didn't. It's the NFL boys things are moving fast it's hard to be successful and almost impossible if you're not prepared.

Beck did look lost out there! That's exactly what happens when you're not prepared. He was thinking too much and instead reacting. The kid is smart and has great attitude and work ethic. He has all the tools just not the idea size. If he was as bad as he palyed last season why on earth would he still be on the roster. I'll admit I don't everything there is to know. But if Parcels kept him around you can believe there is a reason for it.

I think this season you'll see much better qb in Beck with a coherrant coaching staff. GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Pointless starting McCown, he is insurance. We should be playing Beck for the first half of the season to see what we got then throw in Henne if Beck is struggling.

If Henne can't cut it we need to go QB again in 2009.

i hate to say it but i think mccown and beck both suck. our offense should really be terrible this year.

No you don't. You say that (or something similar) as much and in as many threads as possible.

I dont understand the logic that its more pointless to start Mccown. We should start whoever does best.

His career numbers are lousy. At 57.9% completions, which isn't terrible, in fact probably his best category, he averages only 6.3 YPPA. That means he doesn't get the ball down the field.

And when you combine it with sack yardage and INTs, his adjusted YPPA figures plummet, to 5.15 Net Yards/Pass Att, 4.88 Adj Yards/Pass Att, and 3.89 Adj Net Yards/Pass Att.

All very poor numbers, near the bottom.

Those categories basically adjust raw passing yardage with sacks alone, INTs alone, or a combo of sacks and INTs.

I remember looking at it relation to Joey Harrington a couple of months ago, if that means anything. I thought they would be comparable and it was close. More or less a wash, if that's comforting. McCown is superior in gross YPPA (6.3 to 5.8), worse in INT percentage (3.8 to 3.1), worse in Net Yards/Pass Att (5.15 to 5.23), superior in Adj Yards/Pass Att (4.88 to 4.58) and worse in Adj Net Yards/Pass Att (3.89 to 4.09).

McCown has no upside. He is what he is? If Beck and McCown perform the same you go with Beck.

Qb is a very differant position than most. MCCown has been behind some of the worst lines in football. I dont think Mccown is the answer but I feel the same about Beck. If Mccown outplays Beck and Henne then he deserves to start.

Let me get this straight McCown gets a free pass for a career of mediocracy. While Beck who played under clearly worse conditions for only five games doesn't even get the benefit of the doubt, too funny! The fact this is his 4th NFL team should tell you everything you need to know about McCown!

You'll be singing a new tune the first weekend of September!

All of the teams that did not keep him were lousy organizations and have not sniffed the playoffs in recent years. I have never said that either should get a free pass and I dont judge Beck based on his five games.
Also about the new tune, you must not be familiar with me because if I am anything its consistent. I heard the same thing last year about Green, believe me we are all wrong sometimes and I have no more history being wrong than anyone else on this board.

This has nothing to do with who should start, but McCown reminds me of the geeky dude from the movie the Breakfast Club and Weird Science. Talks like him too.

You have a passive agressive stance on Beck whether or not you're aware of it is something entirely different!

Read the post, all Dlockz said was the QB that plays the best should start.

He even stated he wasn't for McCown starting. For heaven's sake wait 'til TC and let things sort themselves out.
