McCown's first regular season start for the Raiders was the 2007 season opener against his former team, the Lions. He was impressive, completing 30 of 40 passes for 313 yards with two touchdowns in a 36-21 loss to the Lions. Unfortunately, he also threw two interceptions and fumbled late in the game to end the Raiders' attempt at a comeback. McCown had played through the second half of the game against the Lions with a right foot injury.

Terrible but better than Beck's debut... He's also more expensive than Beck and only 1 year older, damn what a pick Cameron drafted for us...

Beck and the Dolphins lost to the Eagles 17-7, failing to score on offense. In the game, Beck went just 9-for-22 (40.9%) for 109 yards and rushed twice for three yards. However, he was not sacked and committed no turnovers via fumble or interception.

Mcown has also been in the league for how long now?

So let me get this straight, you are comparing an NFL vet with a rookie?

Keep in mind that Cam is known as a QB guru and he is credited with turning Brees, Rivers, Green and Frerotte into Probowl QB's. He has a very high opinion of Beck and I tend to trust his judgement.

Ireland is another guy that likes Beck, when asked, he said he has a very high opinion of him from his time scouting the draft in Dallas.

Mike Martz is another guy that's known as a QB guru, he also feels that Beck has the talent to be a very good NFL starter. He wanted the Lions to draft beck instead of Stanton and was overruled.

That's 3 very talented and very well respected NFL personel that feel Beck can be our Qb of the future. I'm pretty sure they know what they're talking about, they know more than you and me.

This is a Finheaven first. Even in the mains, I've never see any one claim that quarterback X is better then quarterback Y because quarterback X had a better first career start then quarterback Y. Good stuff.

If you were a Giants fan I guarantee you would have tried to run Eli out of NYC too after his rookie year. Geniuses.

You're comparing a 6th year veteran QB to a rookie, and trying to make a point with it. This is about as bad a thread gets. There are people on death row for less than this.

Beck is deffinetley better than McCown. I mean how can u even compare the lions defense to the eagles defense plus the dolphins had a lot of problems on offense so it really wasn't beck's fault. Stop going crazy over whoever the dolphins sign.

I swear, this is the QB version of that "Chatman is better than Ronnie Brown" thread.

I'm getting tired of hearing this. The four QBs you mentioned are talented. They made Pro Bowls because they were talented, not because Cam Cameron made them who they are. That is the arrogant side of Cam Cameron, taking credit for the success of players he coached. Good coaches don't do that.

And I'm not saying whether John Beck will be a success or a failure, but the opinions of Cam Cameron and Mike Martz don't mean a lot to me. Both are respected by some in league circles, but both have been fired as well.

riveting analysis buddy.

The fact that this poster can come on this board and call one of our players a piece of sh## is wrong. sometimes i hate freedom of speech because of the moronic way it is abused.

this thread makes me one step closer to VIP after seeing all the VIPs slam this thread which I was doing in my head already.

There were quite a few here at Finheaven.com back in 2004 who were comparing A.J. Feeley to Eli Manning and saying he was a better prospect. I'm not sure where they're hiding out now though. :foundout:

Just for the sake of argument, let's look at McCown and Beck's first NFL Starts. Apples to apples, as the saying goes.

Josh McCown (12/1/2002 vs. KC): 4/12 for 45 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, and 3 sacks.

John Beck (11/18/2007 vs. PHI): 9/22 for 109 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INT, and 0 sacks.

Beck has more completions, a higher completion percentage, more yards, less turnovers, and less sacks than McCown.

Not that using a QB's first start is indicative of how their career will pan out, anyway.

unless josh mccown looks like the second coming of johnny unitas and john beck looks like the second coming of johnny carson on the field, sparano better start beck all 16 games this season. he needs the opportunity to show everyone he can play.
