OK, the draft is done, the smoke has cleared and we are sitting with one of the hottest QBs to come out of last year's draft for a bargain price. Coming out Rosen was said to possess a rocket arm, a very tight spiral, ability to throw into tight windows, great mechanics and is an intelligent guy. Now he's been dissed in front of the whole world and he has to have a chip on his shoulder the size of Utah!

If you want to get pumped about Rosen check out some footage of one of the greatest college football comebacks of all time. UCLA vs Texas A&M. UCLA was down 44-10 in the 3rd and then Rosen gets hots and brings his team all the way back for a 45-44 victory.

The new running/ passing QBs are exciting to watch. Guys like Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield and now Kyler Murray bring an excitement to the game that is fantastic. But, like we saw with RG 3, when you expose your QB to those kind of hits he ultimately gets injured. I still think a classic drop back QB, like Brady, Brees and Goff, will win out in the end. Rosen has all the tools needed to be a winning QB in the NFL. Now we need Caldwell to work his magic with Rosen and coach him up in our new NE style offense. The best case scenario is it all clicks and we're competing for Super Bowls very soon, so why not hope for that? I know I am!!

Been thinking about this since draft week ended.

1. If he blows, then really we havent given up a lot for the experiment. The way Grier managed the draft to trade for him, and the trading with the saints, means that we actually gave up a 5th over this year and next year, for a QB that was highly regarded in last years class, who know has 10 or so NFL games under centre. If he doesnt do a lot, then we will still have a high draft pick and will target whoever we want next year.

2. If he shines, and shows that he is a leader, a winner and improves Miami to a point that we are close to playoffs, then for three years we have a starter, paying SFA for him, and allows Miami to target DE, CB, ILB, WR in the next few years in the draft. So thats a win win.

3. There is no guarantee that Tua will declare next year, so if he doesn't, then we can go for the BPA in the 2020 draft. If he doesnt, and we have a bad year, then he and Lawrence will vie for No 1 overall in 2021.

Initially I wasnt sure of the trade, but it's won me over.

Best case:

They decide to start Fitzpatrick for the first five games, but he loses the job to Rosen after going 0-5.

Rosen comes in and plays very well, carrying a young, developing roster to four wins in the 11 games he started.

Confident we have our franchise QB, we trade the first pick in the draft for a haul that includes a trade down for a top ten pick and a couple future firsts.

All of this leads to multiple Super Bowls and we all live happily ever after.

The more you look at the guy the more boxes he checks. He's the prototypical drop back QB. I think he is very lucky to have landed in Miami and I think Miami is very fortunate to have a QB of his age, 22, and skill level that may end up being the man. It's an at bat, looking for your franchise guy at QB. It was a smart risk without much downside. The upside could be we found our QB, like I say, it's an at bat. If he strikes out we simply draft a 2020 QB like we planned to do originally.

I totally agree that the prototypical, stand tall in the pocket, and deliver the rock QB is still the way to go.

Vick is the only example I can think of that has been the exception, and was effective, long term. Even then, no rings.

What is concerning to me is if Rosen has a mediocre season and the Dolphins do not go after one of the top 3 QB prospects in next years draft. If the 20 year pattern continues, Rosen will perform at the "just good enough" level to convince the brass not to go all in on one of the top 3 prospects at QB next year. And we wind up in another 5-7 years of sub .500 football.

Best case scenario is Rosen either proves he is a franchise guy, or flames out completely and we have a high pick plus draft capitol to get a QB in the 2020 draft.

This is getting old now. Grier already said Rosen does not prevent them from drafting another qb in 2020.

But its very relevant. Its a legitimate concern. Can't just brush it under the rug because it "gets old". Its bitten us in the ass numerous times.

There's no debate that the Fins have not had this naturally talented a QB on its roster since #13. That alone is a quantum leap in the right direction.

Whether Josh can translate his exceptional skillset into successful play will be interesting to watch. However, given the state of this team barring any surprises, I wouldn't necessarily use winning percentage as a final arbiter. We have some staff including O'Shea and Flores who have watched the QB standard bearer practice and perform for years. They will have an exceptional benchmark to compare Rosen to. And if they think Josh has the goods, I will happily defer to their judgments. Ditto if they think he doesn't.

No it's not relevant because of what Grier said and yes it's getting old to keep posting it.

Well Grier's shown hes got a lot of patience when it comes to QBs. The precedent has been set. What he says doesnt hold much water with me.

Remember this is Griers first time in charge. We don't know what his patience level is.
